Ok, I'm planning a swap in the next two months. I was wondering whats more important: a bigger intercooler or exhaust? Might not have enough $$$ for both, but hopefully I will.

you need the exhuast first to truly benefit from the intercooler

Word has it that a front mount may actually hurt performance on stock boost, because of a little more lag or something.. it's definitely arguable though.

If you can't afford both, get some cheapo crush bent piping just for the meantime.

A front mount will introduce lag on stock boost levels. For one, there is more piping to go through. Secondly, the core is larger and more pressure is required to get a good flow through it.

I'd get exhaust first. Of course, I've also got some twisted fantasies of pushing more than 7psi through the stock, side mount. We'll see how the EGT and A/F meters like it.

Hate to be redundant, but I feel like post whoreing. Exhaust First.

How about you get an intercooler core and get an exhaust shop to do your intercooler piping and exhaust piping. They will probably do it for cheap if you get both if it done.

I have a stock sr with a 3" downpipe, 3" test pipe and 3" catback and my boost gauge reads 9psi. Is this bad to run on stock intercooler?

Yea, I guess a larger intercooler doesn't sound like a good idea at first, but hopefully I will add one eventually. If I get the 3'exhaust/testpipe/downpipe, what would be the next to upgrade on a limited budget? But I just love the intimidation factor that comes with a large front mount :D . Thanks for the responses. Cant wait til July:evilhaha
