Exhaust Note/Studio on Wheel difference from EX and G

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

My curiosity brings to me if there is any possible difference between the EX and G as far as exhaust note and the sound system.

I currently own a EX35 and recently experienced a 2008 G35 as a loaner. I notice a significant difference between the exhaust note. Is it possible for the EX to achieve such notes? I've heard rumors that the difference is all in the mid pipe - but I have yet to confirm that.

The second thing I notice is their seem to have slightly more bass in the G cabin then the EX. I've heard that the "Studio on Wheel" is designed specifically inside an G cabin. Perhaps there is where the difference comes in?

Any feedbacks will do =)

No clue on the studio thing

But As to the Exhaust thing....

I've been trying to get my EX to sound like a G35 coupe or 350z for the longest time but all i've gotten so far is deleting the Resonator ($40 and Midas) witch gave it some of the growl i've been after but still none of that low almost drone the G's and the Z's have

But I would say now at this point my with the deleted Resonator's my EX sounds slightly louder then the 08 G sedan.

I would recommend this mod to EVERYONE who wants a tad bit more sound.

And ill eventually try to put a sound clip on eventually

On a side note:

When i was having all this done we started it with just the cat's on and OMG the thing sounds like a z race car on steroids no joke.

if you guys have any questions feel free to ask

The exhaust note was made to sound like a quiet G on purpose. Seems like no matter what they'll never make everyone happy. I cannot envision there ever being a huge after market for the EX, although with the number of small car based crossovers on the market now so who knows if there is a strong enough demand products will appear. So go convince all your friends to buy an EX to increase the market share.

The "studio on wheels" is an amazing addition to the AV system in the Gs and many other new models. I think the reason you noticed a difference even with the same components is the interior volume and dimensions of the body panels yields itself to better sound perception. The EX being slightly larger and the seating position being higher will sound slightly different. The design of the system is to point the music directly toward the driver and to a lesser extent the front passenger. Whatever vehicle it is in there is nothing like playing a clean track (I have a BB King/Jimi Hendrix album on my Zune that sounds phenomenal on this system) at 1/3-3/4 volume and you would swear you were there as the music is being blasted straight into your brain.
an old edmunds.com article wrote:Named "Studio on Wheels," this new car audio system was modeled after a superlative two-channel home stereo system that cost more than $33,000 to assemble — as much as the entire car — using components such as "electrostatic tower" speakers priced at $10,000 a pair and a $4,000 CD player, said Thomas Crahan, regional product manager for the Infiniti G35 at Infiniti North America in Gardena, California.

Like this home system, Crahan says, the Studio on Wheels system is capable of reproducing sounds in a wider frequency range than most audio systems, and it is designed to "stage" the sound entirely from the front.

Crahan demonstrated the system last month at a cocktail reception for journalists in New York, hosted by Infiniti and Bose. A jazz quintet played live, and then the journalists were invited into the car to hear a recording of the same music played by the same band through the Studio on Wheels system.

The system incorporates audio components and architecture never before used in a car: a CD player with a 24-bit digital audio converter (DAC) chipset from Burr-Brown, a high-end audiophile brand; Burr-Brown op-amplifiers in the head unit; and, in each front door, a set of 3 speakers that includes a 10-inch woofer for bass as well as a tweeter and a midrange speaker.
