Exhaust Noises

I have a Apexi GT Spec Exhaust...i'm not turbo..i plan on it very soon but i just bought it so i dont have to do things twice...now when i got the exaust there was popping noises but not to much....now the noises have gotten very loud...like really big pops when i down shift. is this because the exhaust is just so damn big that its doing this or is there another reason.

Depends on how loud the pops are, do they sound more like bangs than pops?

Check if you have a lot of carbon deposits on the exhaust tip.

There not bangs just pops pretty loud pops but i wouldnt say it makes a banging sound...I do have an exhaust leak also..its a prety bad one would that be a reason why the pops are louder than they used to be?

What can i use to plug it? what problems can occur if an exhaust leak has been going on for a long time and gets worse? Will it do any major damage?

You'll just get crappy mileage and your car will run a little worse...not too bad.

Weld it up, or if its a massive leak have the part thats broken replaced.

yeah my mileage is horrible rgiht now and it runs alot worse than it used to.

my friend has a stock sohc with an apexi n1 with 3" piping all the way from cat and his pops are loud.

Hey I think MECPInstaller once talked about this in one of his threads. Just look for "Apexi Gt Spec" in the search bar and I think a few threads pop up where he talks about this. If u email him asking if he has the same problem im sure he could go into more depth with it.

it seems like it would be the lack of backpressure. im pretty sure apex'i makes the n1 for turbo and n/a apps, so if you run the larger turbo version with less power you might experience the popping noise. thats what could be causing the mpg loss also.

mine pops .. lack of backpressure when down shifting ... also got a big exhaust leak too .. that used to make my v6 camaro backfire .. flames and all .. i thought it was cool .. then i blew the cam cars been sitting there ever since .. been bout 4 years .... so fix ur exhaust leak .. im working on mine aswell .. but i got stripped threads in head at exhaust manifold ... sucks
