Wll i got my GP Sports EXAS Spec D today.

Freaking awesome looks and quality

Unfortunately i dont know how it sounds or performs:

When attempting to take the bolts off the stock piping where it connects tot eh cat. one began to round(stoped myself from demoloshing in hopes of getting it off later)

moved onto the second bolt, wow, worse than the first it budged a bit then teh wrench broke 100% free and the wrench flew across teh garaga and the nut and part of bolt fell to the floor.....so yea it sherred itself off

how do you guys think is hould go about getting it off? its broken flush with the flange

ive ehard dremel it but i heard that takes FOREVER

any input is HIGHLY appreciated

Ryan

OH man..at that point I'd just take it to a muffler shop, and let them strip all the bolts, so at least they'd have to fix it.

Have you tried using a ratchet? they're more precise than a wrench and are less likely to round bolt heads

Try some vice grips. If that doesn't work grind it off and you will have to drill them out and use some different bolts.

Working at a shop myself, that may not be the best idea. Chances are the shop techs are smarter than you and know that you're trying to screw them. (We always did.)Luckily, we were nice and helped them out but wherever you take it may not be so forgiving.

You can always drill it out...

I rounded those same two bolts when I was taking off my stock exhaust and had to use a can of B'laster and a small pipe wrench with a foot long pipe stuck over the handle to break them loose.

Or you could just grab the torch...

i had this problem. when me and my friends were doing my exhaust system the bolts were so rusted they stripped in a second. so, we took my friends torch and heated em up until we could get em off. once we did this everything we took off was pretty much useless, so we got some new bolts, and got the next exhaust up under there in like 10 minutes. a 10 minute stock exhaust removal took us 2 and a half hours. haha.

we used nearly a full bottle of Liquid Wrench (someone stole my PB Blaster ) and we used about a 2 foot breaker bar

nothing good happened at all

Id just have the muffler shop cut off before cat and weld flange put in test pipe + catback... might be less headache for you and less labor charge if you take it to the shop.

You can buy a Catco high flow cat with the flanges from Greg (AZHitman). Don't know if you could get away with a test pipe in PA. Where I live, at least, they do a visual inspection for emissions.

Edit: I'd seriously consider replacing the cat. With PA winters, road salt, etc. the thing is probably in sad shape and it is 13 years old.

Ditto on the test pipe idea. Thats probally going to be your easiest and fastest way to put your new exhaust on. Unless of course you have those gay emission laws or smog whatever the hell it is

Since you need it done ASAP, I'd just take it down to "friendly local muffler joint" and have them take care of it. Probably worth the $$$ to get it done quick.

why even hook up the exhaust then if you are going to put a SR in. Get started on pulling the motor out.

OK. Well, seems you've got the cart ahead of the horse here.

The car needs to be done for a "project", but it doesn't run, but you're not putting in the engine, but it needs the exhaust done now?

Hmmmm.

Go buy an angle grinder for $30 at HomeDepot. Cut off the bolts. Replace everything.

Sorry if that sounds overly simplistic, but it's way better than jury-rigging crap.

In addition to cutting the bolts off with a grinder, they might also be rusted into the flange like my other two exhausts that I've replaced...MN and IA winters are a bastard on mild steel bolts.

I went to Sears and picked up a nice set of Craftsman "cobalt" drill bits ($45). Just drill out what's left of the bolts from the flange on the cat and you can probably just reuse it. Pick up some stainless hardware from Home Depot or somewhere and fasten it with that. Just take your time with the drill bits as it's slow going.
