has anyone made an exhaust for their 240? ('96 specifically)i was wondering if anyone could give me the best measures for the piping? (eg 2 ft straight off the cat, 45 degree bend right, etc.)

also, if you have some spare time, please look over the following; combined 2 posts, didnt want to spam.

ok, ive just read a bunch of crap about exhaust, tell me if im missing anything or if it pretty much is correct.

1.replace cat with test pipe (neone know where to get one for low price? preferably rusty and used :) cheaper is better)2.connect flange to test pipe (i have no idea what a flange is, i have the impression that it is some form of an adapter to allow bolting up of different sized pipes?)3.connect straight pipe to flange, what is the best diameter for a stock ka24de? somwhere around 2 1/4" ? anyone care to verify?4.rivet more bends and straight pipe on until im at the back of the car etc.

also, i am wondering will it be realllly loud with no resonator? how about with no resonator or muffler? side note - anyone know a place to buy a cheap straight through muffler, or maybe like a pipe with a can around it that looks like a muffler:pface? i dont really care about noise, mainly concerned with good flow, but i dont want a ticket every 5 minutes.

Last question!!

anyone know the part number for a nissan hood emblem? bought the car missing the badge and i dont want a jdm one, little too ricey for me at this juncture :)

the flange is what bolts one part of the exhaust to the other, I believe the ones for the cat are football shaped and the one one the manifold is a triangle. I have made an exhaust for my 95 with strait pipe, similar to what you are talking about. But why do you want measurements, how are you going to bend the pipe, if you do have the means to bend and weld it then use your stock exhaust as a pattern and just smooth out any bends as much as you can. A cheap strait through muffler is an XLerator, it should put you into resonable noise levels also. And 2.5" would be perfeft size for that setup, but if you keep a cat and resonator then you would proably want to use 3" to make up for the extra restrictions

It is not really an adapter, It is just a collar that is at the end of the pipe that allows the two pipes to be bolted together. The pipes are "mated" by two or three bolts to each others flanges and the pipes can be the same size or difff size, the just have to have the same flange shape.

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=flange protruding rim, edge, rib, or collar on a pipe shaft to attach it to another object

great post :) people rarley spend the time to read through all the crap that i type up, thanks hehe.

i was just going to get some pipe and crush bent corners from a muffler shop and weld them at my friends house who has a blowtorch and stuff. on your exhaust, what diameter did you use? i think i will use 2 1/4 or 2.5, but not sure. thx for the XLerator suggestion, will check it out. on a related topic, anyone know where to get a good deal on a test pipe? some quotes off the internet have been around 40$ shipped. this sounds kindof excessive to me, or is this the going rate? thanks.

You can make a strait pipe for a couple bucks by gutting the cat and welding in a 2.25" pipe that goes through. I used 2.5" on mine. your friend has a blow torch huh? Are you planning on welding your exhaust using an oxy/acetlyne torch? Im sure it could be done if you were good enough but good luck! That method is usually for really small stuff like jewlry. I would recommend using a mig welder. Oh yeah, not sure if you care about smog stuff but my car passed cali emissions with only the small front cat.

Anything is better than writing a paper 2 weeks past due on "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Animal Farm" I get 90% credit on the final thing too :) I'm a slacker in that class though, totally hate it...

sorry if there was some confusion on the pipe diameters. I ment 2.25 for the test pipe, and 2.5" for the rest of the exhaust

sixxdeuce, about the blowtorch, i really have no idea except that my friend has the capacity to weld exhaust. i could be completly wrong and he might not even have a blowtorch, maybe somthing else, but whatever :)

ah ok, btw did you make your test pipe yourself or get it from somwhere? i want to replace my cat.

He took the cat with the catalyst knocked out, then he ran a 2.25 pipe through it. This isin't the bbest way but it works since you can keep the flanges. I bet an exhaust shop could do it if you took your car to them, but be careful, that stuff in the cat is bad for you, wear a dust mask thingy if you gut it...

I did make it myself along with the rest of the exhaust but at the time I worked in an exhaust shop and had acess to all kinds of cool tools and machines that you wont.
