I'm new on these boards, but heres my question:I have an 89 240sx, and my manifold is missing 2 bolts around cylinder 4 of my exhaust manifold. Raw exhaust is leaking out. Heres the prob, the bolts are busted inside, and i wanna replace the mani gasket. What can i do? how do i get these out and where do i get replacements? and one is a stud....is this a part of the block?

Thanks in advance

my 89 also has missing/broken bolts on the manifold... from what I've seen from other members, it's a PIA to do...

any other -side effects besides sucking fumes, increased under-hood temp, and loss of low-end torque?

I can live w/ mines till the SOHC is ready to be taken out for a rebuilt unit & a hotshot header.... just too lazy n taking care of my lil NICO girl for now :P

mine are broken aswell .. ive been searching on a good way to resolve it .. but im getting nowhere .. when i replaced my head gasket i made sure as to not tighten the exhaust manifold nuts too much as i could tell they were ready to strip .. also i noticed the bolts werent that great .. nissan shoulda used some bolts like the ones on honda engines .. with the lock type nut .. anyways .. a few days ago my exhaust was leaking bad .. so i checked and sure enough the damn bolts and 2 studs fell off .. hah... on the rear .. and my gasket fell apart .. so for a temp solution i tried to just put 2 nuts on the remaining studs .. well the damn studs striped inside the block .. what should i do ?? the bottom ones im sure are still fine ill just get some new studs and bolts .. but id like to seal the damn leak up tight .. bad enough im running a straight pipe and it sounds like a truck .. lol but now it sounds like a tractor .. :( im getting a RB in the next few months .. but it like to still drive around in the meanwhile with out the whole tractor vibe going .. lol

best way to fix the broken bolt problem....drill out the old bolts...take out one of the other bolts to match up the drill bit size...probably gonna need a pretty powerfull drill...then you can either tap out the newly drilled holes or you can get a re-thread kit from any auto part store. if you go with the thread kit...make sure you bring the bolt with you to make sure you get the right size...you'll also have to drill out the hole a little bit bigger...the kit will have the size of the bit you need on the package.

if you drill it out you can reweld inside the bolt hole. then drill it out to the origianl size. if you drill out to a bigger size you'll have to drill out the header bolt holes to the next bigger size as well.

if you get the thread kit for the bigger hole.....it will bring it back down to the original size so the new bolt will fit. i did the same thing for a stripped out hole on my valve cover
