hey. thats wat ifound on my m30. those bolts break alot more then we like. a good plan would be to drill a hole in the center for an easyout. then heat up the bolt with propane or mapp gas... (mapp is hotter) then try to use the easyout when its still hot. cause heat makes exhaust work a bit easier thats the best advice i can give...

on my car im just opting for an engine swap...... the exhaust bolt was just one of the problems with the engine.

heating up the bolt will make it expand, and therefore be tighter.

Hello Isch.

Sorry to bring bad news, there is a TSB on the exhaust manifold studs. They were recalled for lousy steel I guess. I went to change my manifold gasket a couple years back. I thought it would be a 2-3 hour job. Big trouble when every manifold stud broke off.

I was not able to remove the studs, tried a right angle drill with no luck. It is nearly impossible to drill the center of the stud without slipping off. The work area is very limited you will notice.

I ended up pulling the head and running it to a machine shop. The shop uses a process called EDM (i think) to extract the studs, they install an upgraded stud.

You can read further info at ALLDATA or f31club.com. Moral of the story my 3 hour job turned into abou a 12 hour deal and a trip to the head shop. Many VG30 owners have had this happen.

Thanks, Steve

yup... the m30 guys stay on top of things.

you can also find it in the manual page of http://www.f31club.com along with hella other TSBs.

if you cant tap it out.. your gonna have to take it to the machine shop and have them drill it out. mind as well do some head work while its out.
