Feel free to punch me in my face if this is a stupid question but which gaskets are better...? The multi-layer metal gaskets, or those wafer/paper/asbestos/metal gaskets? thanks

Hmmmm what do you think? This should be kind of common sense. The composite gaskets are fine if you just replace it with a new one but old ones are prone to leaking because they just dont hold up.

Of course the multi layer one is better since it can be reused many many times. And plus it looks better. Buy one for the 2001 Sentra SER. Its a 3 layer metal gasket and its only 20 dollars from the dealer. Oh and this is assuming you are talking about the sr20 engine.

Are you sure that a multi layer can be reused?

LOL. I would never re-use an old gasket. I have a 3 layer metal one on there now but the Megan manifold I just ordered came with the composite type. Just wondering which I should go with. My gut feeling was the metal one. NomaX seems to question that. Any reason?

I would definately use the multi layer exhaust gasket over the composite. There is just no reason I would even hesitate to use it. The only reason megan includes the composite is because they are incredibly cheap.

The reason why you can resuse multi layer gaskets is because the multi layers compress together when torqued down for a good seal. If it was just one layer metal gasket, maybe I would hesitate because after you untighten and tighten so many times the gasket may compress and get too thin. Resulting in a little leak. But still I wouldnt replace it till you notice leaking.

multi layer metal are way better and you can re-use them a few times if necessary. Those other ones have the insides crumbling out real quick.

man do you know what that gasket paper is made of....PAPER. And you want to put it on the exhaust manifold. That thing will probably burn. And yea a multi layer gasket is just a few sheets of metal riveted together. If gives it more cushion to seal when tightened.

Any why are you going to waste your time trying to make a gasket that will probably leak. I hope you know it only costs 20 dollars or so for a multi layer gasket from nissan. 01 sentra ser with sr20 engine.
