Exhaust Leak?

Hey I just bought a 2002 Infiniti I35. It has about 78,000 miles on it, and I couldnt be happier with it. Recently the cars been making a weird noise though. It seems to be coming from the exhaust; the best way to describe it as is that it sounds like a G35. Normally I would not mind, because I like the sound of a sport tuned exhaust, except I know that in this case it can't be normal. I havn't bottomed out at all or even rememebr hitting so much as a pothole. Has anyone ever heard of this before, or have any advice on what to do about it? I searched for this in the forums, but did not find anything. This could also be because I'm a newbie to forums.

Does it seem to come from one particluar section of the car?? I would try having someone rev the car while you stand outside the car and see if you can isolate it anywhere. It could be an exhaust leak or something like however an exhaust leak like that would probably have a "puff puff puff" sort of sound....

do you notice any added noise at idle?

Yeah at idleing it sounds much deeper than it should sound. I had my friend rev her up with me out side its def coming from the exhaust but i cant tell where i checked under it the muffler feels a little loose but it doesnt seem to be disconected anywhere. I am about to go on a trip from albany to LI do you think it could cause a problem?

No its not going to cause any reliability problems, i think youd know if the exhaust was about to fall off...

I would say however that you may have a small leak, proabbly near the cat....

Take a wet rag and while the car is running stuff the rag against the exhaust pipe and if there is a leak you will hear it get much louder when you plug the exhaust.

Or juust run it to the local muffler shop. Alot easier to find on a lift.

probably just needs a little 5 second weld job
