Hey was just wondering whether an exhaust leak would cause loss of power or any issues?

I have a slight exhaust leak inbetween my turbo and dump pipe at the top inbetween the flanges (the dump pipe is apparently not flat).

Just wondering whether this would effect power, I'm also getting a lot of pops and bangs from exhaust :P

Was just wondering this because my friends CA18 with T25G, Exhaust and 12psi seems to quicker off the lights then my car (CA18 + T28 GTiR + 8.7psi + Exhaust + FMIC). Its probably just that he has higher boost and that my turbo is laggier right?

The exhaust leak may be sucking fresh air into the exhaust, causing the 02 sensor some confusion.

Just fix it :-)

The 'extra oxygen' may be telling the computer to add more fuel, causing exhaust backfiring, and I expect, bad fuel economy.

Disconnecting the o2 sensor would be my first test.. if things improve, then it's definitely letting air into the exhaust, and past the 02 sensor.

Disconnecting the sensor is a test..not a solution.

Your friends car just might have an engine with less coke around the valves, and/or better compression. Yes, the smaller turbo with higher boost will out accelerate your car. Turbos should be sized for an engine, bigger is rarely better. The GTiR T28 should be ok though generally speaking.

Hope this helps.

At full throttle/high load I don't think the ECU uses any info from the O2 sensor. It's no longer in closed loop and injects fuel based only on the maps stored in the memory.

But the leak should be fixed regardless, although I don't think it's causing any problems, exhaust leaks are never a good idea. They tend to start fires.
