Driving home from applying at a job today I noticed something strange. I know for a fact i have an exhaust leak. Ive been able to hear it for some time now. Never thought anything of it, seeing as the car drove fine.

When on my way home, i was merging onto US-30 in York. Upon doing so i gave the car roughly 80% throttle and she wouldnt go. I mean she goes, but not like normal. After getting off the highway i gave it at least 80% throttle in every gear and noticed that according to my boost gauge, im not making ANY BOOST. In fact the gauge doesnt even it 0....im stopping at approximately 2-1 in/hg.

So my question: Is my exhaust leak at the point im leaking so bad im not spinning the turbine enough to make boost? Or am I leaking boost? Or maybe sometihng else.

IIRC if there was a boost leak the car wouldnt go at all? Since the air trying to reach the engine cant get there. Exhaust leak seems to me to be the answer, but before i take my car off the road and start replacing all the gaskets, I would like for someone to give me their 2cents on the topic.

Thanks guys i appreciate it

Ryan

If the car is skipping or rough idle start at intercooler piping. make sure all connections are good and not cracked. If it idles ok check the manifold for cracks. If all that checks out. Buy some gaskets.

A boost leak would not make the car no go. Check all of you piping and lines for cracks or loose connectors/clamps. An exhaust leak won't cause your problems. Are you running any sort of boost controller also?

ive got all the gaskets needed. copper manifold gasket, turbo-manifold, turbo-02housing, and 02-dowpipe gasket

the car goes. it drives fine, except the fact im not making boost

its basically like driving an N/A car

Idn't think it be a boost pressure issue. If anything gets past the MAF you will know it. Sure your turbo is good?

By piping I meant your intercooler piping. You either have a leak or a messed up wastegate. Driving with no boost sucks, lol. When mine was like that it was actually slower than na on my previous car.

it might be your turbo. Does the turbo sound likes its spooling like normal? any weird noises from it?

cant hear the turbo over the exhaust leak. Until said problem i was making the normal 6-7psi whenever i felt the need to give it throttle. Gonna replace the manifold->turbo gasket as soon as i find someone with a garage to use. And then make a boost leak tester, and check for leaks. I'm almost positive its my exhaust leak. It's gotten substantially louder the past 36 hours

if your exhaust leak is soo bad right at at the manifold-turbo thats could be it, i had the 2 bolts closest to the engine come loose before and it would only hit like 1-2psi. If thats where your leak is it could be that.

Bingo!

If you have an exhaust leak before the turbo you wont have enough pressure for turbo wont spool up

More than likely if you didnt have the locking tab's on the 4 turbo bolts then your tubo's falling off the mainifold.

If you had a boost leak you car would hit a brick wall in boost.
