I got a new catback system from ebay for my 92 240sx and when I tried to put it on, I found the diameter of the pipe is bigger than the pipe from the catalyst converter. So what should I do now? Should I take out the catalst converter and buy another "test pipe" and use it as an adapter to put the new catback on my car? Please give me some opinions.

are the end flanges and gaskets going to mate properly? if it appears they will go ahead and bolt up you new exhaust system.

its normal for a new aftermarket cat back to be larger diameter than the stock.

No. They don't match at all as the size of the new exhaust is bigger, the flange, the bolt size are all bigger. So I have to do something on my catalyst converter otherwise there is no way to put it on.

I look at my maintenance manual but it doesn't mention what is the stock size of a Nissan exhaust. Is it 2.5" ? If I am going to buy a test pipe to replace my catalyst converter, shoult it be 2.5" in one end and 3" in the other end? I am pretty sure that the O.D. of my new exhause is 3".

outside diameter doesnt matter. the i.d. does. i beleive the id on all 240's is 2 1/2" you should be able to use a 3" test pipe. is it possible you bought some cheap china knock off exhaust. if so that may be the proplem not the converter.

Good question. I have no clue where it is from. But I called the buyer and it is obivous that he speaks chinese English. The buyer also sent me two pictures with the pipes installed on a car. Obviously, this car doesn't have any catalyst converter. Anyway, what could be the problem of a "China knocked off" exhause?

BTW, how can I post a picture on m post ??

This is what he showed to me. Obviously, he put a test pipe instead of a catalytic converter.
