well the BRM exhaust and hi flow cat almost fit perfect but theres a few catches.

the fsm shows the stock bracket that goes to the cat attaching between the flanges. this seemed wrong but i tried it anyway since the spinning cat flange creates about 1/16" space, but it makes it offset to one side that way. could someone check the stock setup and see where its supposed to attach

the way the cat is attached to the hotshot header creates an angle between the flanges so they dont meet flush which would make it veer over to the right some.

also the gigantic 4" muffler tip seems like it'll butt against the the tow hook loop when everythings installed.

the stock hangers dont seem to fit the setup very well

i'd like to turn it over to a shop but i cant drive it there without an exhaust.

any suggestions?

so close

isn;t the tow hook loop on the right? I thought our exhausts came out on the left?

Put the exhaust back on... and then drive it to the shop.

It doesn't take that long.

alright i remounted the cat with the bracket after the flanges. much better alignment. i've got it propped up into position with a jack and scrap lumber. the flange angles are fine. the real issue is the 4" tip contacting the tow hook. its only a 2.25" pipe. why does it need a 4" tip? i cant hang it any lower due to ground clearance especially if i add H&R springs -1 1/2"

arrrgghhh!!! why cant anything be simple

Many people saw that tow hook off, something to consider.

the tow hooks are left and right. youll need to cut it off, but be warned, its like 1/2" hard-as-hell steel, my hax saw did nothing. i ended up using a grinder, then a torch, then a 6 foot bar to twist it off. that little thing is no joke.

unbolt the one bolt, then rip it off. it might be possible to take off, if the rear bumper is first removed. i was way to lazy to look into that, so i did what i said above.

tow hook on both sides for s13. looks like you can unbolt it but i don't know if you can still bolt up the rear hanger piece with it removed.

my nismo exhaust rests up against the tow hook, came pre-dented from japan. mine is mounted as high as possible, as long as it doesn't rattle i dont' care about the tow hook resting on the tip.

I always recommend the dual-tip on the S13 for that reason.

However, from now on I'll be advising anyone who buys a single-tip to lop off the tow hook.

Nissan's quality control for placement of exhaust hangars and tow hooks was VERY shoddy from 89-94. The location of both varies across cars, such that it's almost impossible to get a PERFECT fit.

So far, all our stuff has matched up pretty well, but again, every S13's hangars, tow hooks (and other non-interchangeable parts) are different by a few mm's.

Yea i had the same problem with the tow hook..i just cut it off. Everything was good to go after that. Also between the header and the cat i doubled up the exhaust gaskets, bolted together nicely. I am pleased with my BRM the sound is incredible! good luck!

alright no more tow hook. flanges are all lined up all bolts are mad tight, hopefully not too tight. anyway looks like i was right about the way it aligned after the cat. the muffler sits a full 4" to the right of where it needs to be for the hangers to fit. I'd think all i gotta do if move it back but it feels real stiff. so i figured id utilize the NICO security blanket before i apply all that leverage on the flanges.

is this normal and will it flex that much without any issues?

also wondering if i should let it run and heat up first.

would a shop be able to fine tune it with a torch if it causes any problems?

where can i get shorter hangers to raise the height a bit?

to raise it up put worm drive clamps around all of the rubber hangers and tighten away. my BRM literally touches the bumper, but just barely.

just normal metal band clamps, like you would use on an intake.
