Well I have a 5zigen fireball exhaust for my '97 240sx and I wanted to get rid of my cat. converter, do I just replace it with a test pipe? All of the test pipes i've looked at are 3' in diameter but my exhaust is 2.5' (non turbo). Can i still bolt it onto my 2.5 exhaust piping. If not, what do I have to replace the cat. with. Of course this is off road use only .

dont get pulled over if you're gonna put a test pipe on. One of my subaru buddies got pulled over and saw a nice $1500 ticket for that alone and was sent to a ref. Otherwise yeah it'll fit.

Don't mean to sound like a rube but I really do live in the boondocks...not much around here. You live in San Francisco...a major city. Do the cops really tech your car for illegal mods when they pull you over out there?

Yes, SFPD will check for stuff like that. My buddy's subaru didn't get picked out in SF either, it was in a smaller city further down the peninsula where the police really don't have much to do but to profile drivers. If you do go with a test pipe, you're not really gonna see much of a power improvement, and in my neck of the woods, it's not really worth the risk of getting reamed for something that doesn't really yield power gains. Another city further down the peninsula from SF is beginning to use a binder with pictures of what stock engine bays are supposed to look like as well, following what some police departments are doing in So. Cal.

DUDE!Just go to the junk yard and pull an old Cat of your model car. Then while wearing a mask "Asbestos" use a pry bar and 2LB hammer and knock all the guts out. Now you have a Test pipe.
