Hi,

Yesterday I heard some banging while driving home and took a look at the situation in the light this morning. From what I can tell the exhaust itself looks fine, but the rubber hanger securing the tailpipe (backend) broke, so its semi-loose. When I go over bumps, dips and sometimes turns I can hear it clanking on the top of my bumper as it will move around an inch or so.

I went to Autozone and Strauss and all that they had onsite was standard hangers. Autozone could order it, but I can do the same online. The problem is I am not exactly sure what they have matches by current hanger (I think it is my original hanger). The hanger that broke has two holes - one that is still secure goes to a pin attached to the chassis and the welded piece that comes off the muffler (its rusted) slips into the other hole but the rubber broke.

Could someone lend me a hand and let me know what I should buy as a replacement and how to install? How do I install the new one - and how do I get it onto the pin as the end is flared out to hold it in place. I dont want to break the new one! Perhaps there is a better system - or use the standard equipment but want to make sure it will work for me.

I will try to attach a photo of the issue (if I can figure out how to do so) and the Autozone parts site is below:

Thanks in advance.

It's and easy fix. Take the old one off and take it into autozone and match it up as best you can. Put a little grease/lube in the holes on the new hanger. Slide the hanger onto the exhaust side first, then lift the exhaust up and slide the chassis end on. Done.

As a follow-up I got it fixed. I ordered the part through Rock Auto.com on Friday afternoon and was in my mailbox on Monday when I got home (didn't have to use the car from Friday-Sunday luckily). The cost for the part was 2.49 and $2 shipping (little cheaper than Autozone who also had to order it and would have to pick it up at the store) - so this was much more convenient.

I didn't have any grease, so I used softened butter and struggled a bit getting it off but after 10 minutes was able to do so. I checked the orientation of the holes based on the one I took off and then slipped one end through the muffler hook and then managed to pretty quickly pull it onto and through the chassis notch.

I took the car out today for work and no sound at all.

Part ordered - Walker 35725:

The piece attached to the muffler is pretty rusted, if that happens to break/fall off, will Meineke or repair shop be able to sodder another on? Everything else with the exhaust itself seems pretty good (was replaced 3 or so years ago).
