I am smelling exhaust gases inside the car. This happens with the ventilation system on fresh (outside) air only; if on recirculation, I can open the windows for a few second and then close them, and no more smell of exhaust gases. As I understand, the fresh air suction is just forward of the windshield, and the suction grills are sealed away from the engine compartment. So, how does the ventilation fan suck in exhaust gases? And if it is sucking in exhaust gases, then there must be a leak somewhere. Any help much appreciated. My car is a 2008 Infiniti G35. Personal email at [email protected] will be of great help.

Have you put your vehicle up on a lift and inspected your exhaust?

No. Not yet, but will do so as soon as I am able to. Meantime driving on recirculation. I was hoping to find out how the gases can come into the car when the fresh air ventilation suction grid is in front of the windshield and isolated from the engine compartment. I was hoping this would narrow the search for a leak down. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
