wonderin if I should purchase an exhaust now for my car (1990 240) if I purchase a one piece exhaust system will it fit onto a sr20det in the future? If I'm not mistaken the exhaust hooks up to your catalytic converter is it in the same place on a ka24se?? (think thats my engine code no dohc) and a sr20det? or should I hold off on getting an exhuast system for when I get the sr20?? thanks again.

ka24e (sohc 240 motor)

if you get a catback exhaust, it is the same application for the car with an SR20det...the downpipe comes in a similar position, and the cat will bot up to the exhaust...so yes, if you get a catback now, it will work when you get your SR.

and no, noone wants to give you an SR20det.

Just make sure you get 3 in pipes, you'll lose a little power now but make it up later.

Get the 3" piping if you plan on going with an SR swap in the future. I hear an exhaust with that piping will be loud with you stock engine but will quiet down a lot when you install the SR engine.

Has anyone documented the lose of power using 3" piping on a US 2.4L 240sx?

I was just wondering because a 2.4L 4-cylinder is pretty big not to gain something from 3" piping.

Thanks in advance for any info. regarding this issue.

youll lose some low end tourqe and gain some high end hp on the 2.4l KA....

i dont think the loses are noticable in the 'real world' but im sure there is some low end tourqe loss on the dyno charts.

fulltimeclubber: You see, according to H8 UR DSM, you will gain some HP with the added security that you have the right exhuast for your future swap.

H8: Thanks again.

I still would like to see some dyno sheets.

why waste your money dynoing a 150hp 240 , hehehe, just playin

i have seen them somewhere, but i dont have the motivation to search...

with I/H/and a 3" exhaust of course you will gain HP, its just not the same level you will gain when you have a 3" on a turbo car, ya know......i had my N1 on my KA before the swap, and i didnt feel ANY power losses, only gains, and better throttle response at high rpm, but it was pretty loud exhaust...louder than it is on my SR with no CAT... : )

Yeah, I've heard the KA with an N1 and it was loud as heck! I've also heard the N1 on an SR equiped S13 and it sounded like a blow dryer on steriods. It's funny how much the turbo muffles the sound.

H8: If you don't mind me asking, what's your set-up (suspension, engine, interior, and exterior) and how much have you spent?

Thanks in advance.
