I recently got a new exhaust system put on, its a 2.25 inch system header back with a magnaflow cat and ractive muffler. The loundness is killing me. It's super low... really basey...vibrates ur brain. Anyways, i dont want to get a new muffler, cause anything quiter is gonna produce losses, so i was thinking about using dynamat on the back of the rear seats, because most of the sound is coming straight through the inside of the car. I have a 93 240 coupe. Does this sound like a good idea? Also, should i consider using another sound deadening product instead? how much weight would this be adding? Sorry for too many questions. Thanks

ractive muffler...? aren't those crappy mufflers? maybe that's your problem.

anyways, dynamat would help a little. you would need to dynamat the floor from the tail lights up to at least the rear seats...focus mostly on the bottom of the trunk. it depends on what kind of dynamat and how much you put on to know how much weight it will be.

Ractive certaintly insn't apexi, but its a very well made muffler. It's straight through design so its gonna be as loud as any other straight through of the same diameter and length. I belive that 2.25 is larger than stock. My system is also alot straighter than stock.

2.25 is not the stock diam... its very very skinny compared to 2.25 (what I have right now). Its probably like 1.8 or something like that.

Yeah thats what i had heard about the diameter too. I bought it with a non-stock system so i didnt know... just knew that bigger than 2.25 would produce large losses. I dont want to put in a resonator because it produces losses, weight. And i dont want to do any more custom fab. I'll just use some sound deadening stuff i guess. I never would have thought that this would be a problem. The sound is intoxicating, but after u step out of the car, your head hurts. I guess i was asking for it with my system.

2.4 liters can get 3 inch w/o too much losses apparently. A resonator will not gain you much more weight, since you will be removing tubing and replacing w/it. Straight through design resonators don't rob much power either.

Holy misinformation, Batman!

First off, "Ractive" is crap. Made in Taiwan I believe, by the same folks that make LED air filters and undercar neon kits. Trust me, they're junk.

Second of all, a resonator does NOT impede flow.

Third, if you're worried about the weight of a simple resonator, you obviously haven't ever used Dynamat. The amount you'd use to cover the rear seat are would weigh almost as much as a WHOLE CATBACK.

Fourth, "straight-thru" doesn't ALWAYS equal loud. The problem here is you used mis-matched parts that weren't designed to work together.

Lastly, you are mistaken that larger tubing than 2.25 = power losses.

There's some good info in the first post of the sticky at the top of this page - Enjoy!

Check out BRM

And dynamat is a complete waste unless your car is a sound/show machine

its basically asphalt.....my neighbors friend has it in his Mustang and a piece that is 2ft x 2ft weighed something like 50-60lbs i believe(dont quote me on that number) what im saying is that stuff is rediculously heavy and IMHO not worth a single cent
