ok guys i need some help...Like some of you know I am not getting any boost with my car...I checked all the pipping and i checked to make sure that the turbo was spooling...everything checks out ok...what i have pretty much decided is the reason i am not getting boost is because all i have is a downpipe coming from the turbo for exhaust for now...I am thinking that with no backpresure the turbo is dumping the exhaust gas' and its not letting the turbo spool like it should...does this seem right to you guys....has anyone drove there car without any exhaust and did it run right? please let me know...

you might have wastegate or turbo problems and having no exhaust has nothing to do with it.

this probably won't fix your problem but its still related and kinda funny. My friend had a similar problem with not building boost... we checked everything out, pipes, hoses, etc. but nothing. Then he started his engine up while the hood was up and i stared at the engine and noticed that the little wastegate flapper arm was just kinda swinging there and blowing open when he revved it. He didn't have a cotter pin to hold the actuator arm to the damn flapper! i thought it was funny but most of you probably don't.. guess you would have had to been there.

i have already checked the wastegate....i know it works its off my other turbo...i changed from the stock turbo to a t28 from a skyline...i am thinking the wastegate is opening up when i hit the throttle...i think i am just going to run without the wastegate hooked up and see if that fix's it...if so i know its the wastegate...if not then i dont know

Sounds like u need to go buy some boost fluid! Sorry something I remember reading a while back in a DSM forum gave me good laugh, but it does sound like some sort of wastegate problem hope you get it fixed.

you talking about the kid who was buying a talon/eclipse/laser whatever, and he took it for a test drive with the owner and the car wasn't boosting up properly and the guy fed the kid some line about being low on boost fluid?

You don't have an exhaust leak before the turbo anywhere do you? Are you sure that the flapper door on the wastegate isn't cracked/broken? A turbo is a pretty simple device. If you want to make sure it's moving air, turn off the car, unplug the MAFS, remove the hot pipe and start it. Rev the motor and if you feel a good amount of air coming out of the turbo, then it's working and you have to have a boost leak somewhere. When you say it's not boosting up, do you mean that it's not making boost at all, or not reaching full boost?

none at all....i did that already that is why i know its not bad...i found some small leaks in the piping but i dont think that its enough to take all the boost away...i should have exhaust on it this weekend so then i will be able to hear any leaks before the turbo...

If you haven't tried this already, pull the hose off the wastegate and/or turbocharger and see if your car gets into boost. Becareful with this as it will cause an overboosting condition, but your foot is your limiter. If it works and your car goes fastm then you have a boost leak at your intercooelr piping. if it doesn't work, then your wastgate acuator is bootleg or your flapper door has carbon it.

What it can do is gunk up the wastegate door and not allow it to shut all the way which will not allow the turbo to spool up. It could also mean that the bearing are out of if and they it's not able to spin up like it's supposed to.

Quote »Dee looks like i might be ordering one of those top mount t3/t4 mani's from ya lol[/quote] I'll be rolling a couple of them out to paid members next week. If you're interested, don't hesitate to rattle my cage. I'm putting a CA in one of my 240s, so we kinda have a jig to make the manifolds with and not be rushed. I'll have him make a handful and see if any of the guys are interested. A T3/T04B stage 1 will do all of your ca18's hella good. And the T3/T04E will do even better. I say to everyone, ditch your T25s and get some class about that @$$. Bigger is sometimes better especially int eh case of T3/T4 compared to the T25.

There's a pic somewhere in the archives. Just do a search and you should be able to see it or ask nab911. The new ones won't be ready until sometime this week.
