Hi I just recently purchased my altima it's pretty much stock with some rims. I'm looking at getting the stillen cat back exhaust for it. I recently started browsing the forum for info and what route I should go and I've been reading about the race line y pipe. I'm curious if I were to get that would I still need the cat back exhaust or would the axle back do? I live in canada I can't find local parts for the car at all so everythings got to get ordered in and I wanna be sure of what I'm buying. I'm looking for good sound and the best possible gains I can get out of it. Maybe the custom route?

go with cat back with y-pipe. cat back starts where the cat ends, y-pipe replaces the cat. and i strongly advocate custom. you get your sound at a better price. just research the effects of each portion of the system and make something.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I'm willing to do the custom I'm just not sure what kind of hassle the muffler shop will have getting parts to fit my car. I can't seem to find any aftermarket parts for it in canada. I understand that it's a muffler shop so they can bend pipe and whatever but when you say custom what would be used for the mufflers themselves? That's I guess what I'm getting confused with reading the other exhaust threads. If they still have to order if from the US my best bet maybe would still be the stillen cat back with the y pipe I'm thinking

any mufflers you want, depending on sound. i used magnaflows as they receive good praise on this forum. 5x8 ovals. not as loud as a smaller muffler, but i wanted a daily driver with some growl, not a screamer. all you need is mufflers and tips, any local shop will have them, you can order from somewhere like jegs or summit, and then have the muffler shop fab and install. warning: depending on law (and how strict the shop follows it) they might not put the y-pipe on. it's technically illegal in my state to remove a cat, but they don't test cars for emissions and probably wouldn't know one was missing anyways. i had to take it to a good ole boy shop to get the y-pipe put on after having the muffler shop fab the exhaust.
