Catalytic converter heatshield is loose on mine. every time i pass thru certain rpm let say 2700, resonance matches and it starts vibrating and makes loud noise..

I take care of my engine really good. Oil change freak! engine always runs smooth, but this doesn't look good from outside when i drive.

catalytic converter heatshield is rusted and partially loose. its hard there but loose. How can i fix this without removing the heatshield? any type of heat resistant foam type of stuff i can spray in the gap to avoid resonance?

any info would help. i hate this noise

sometimes they resonate when one of the brackets is rusted out or loose or whatever. short of removing them, try and identify where it makes noise at. just have someone rev it up while your down there and it shouldn't be too hard to find the offending noise maker. depending on how bad it is, jb weld could solve the problem. but if its rusted too bad other creative solutions maybe needed to keep the sheilds.

fwiw it may be better to remove them so you could have a heated seat for the winter.

You guys even know how hot the catalytic converter gets? Red RTV will burn right off!! Same goes for the JBWELD.

You can get RED RTV from any autoparts store. You only have 4 real solutions.

1. Weld the sucker back on there. 2. Rip out the sheild, buy some exhuast wrap and wrap your cat. 3. Rip out the sheild.4. Buy a new cat.

I used jb weld before to no avail. I paid strict attention to the directions and was able to scrape some off with my nail. I have used something alot better. It is a weld type of material (similar to jb weld) but it is in solid form. You will see a tube with grey on the outside and black in the middle. Just cut off how much you are going to use and then mush it together (make sure you wear a pair of rubber gloves). You then have about 3-5 minutes to "weld" the heater shield to the cat. Just letting you know it will not last forever. The heat causes it to loosen and eventually fall after about 6 months. Just a temporary fix.Wishing you all the best,Los

Could you use a couple of those metal bands that tighten down as you screw the small screw on it? (sorry for the lack of vocabulary) I did it to a heat shield on my Acura, but I don't know how the cat on your car looks. If all else fails, cut it off and wrap it in aluminum foil jk

Mine used to do exactly the same.. It sucks, cause it makes people think your car is falling apart. Then one day, I installed the Blitz Nur-Spec cat-back and poof, the sound disappeared. My guess is the new exhaust (80mm) changed the mass of the system, thus eliminating the resonance effect. My advice to you is to buy an exhaust! Just kidding, in case you can't afford one at the moment, I suggest just trying to tighten the crap out of every heat shield you can, and hope that it works..

good luck.

i was suggesting red rtv to put it in the area that it is vibrating at and since it is soft it will keep it from vibrating and will absorb the vibrations.

another thing that was mentioned before is to get some exhaust heat wrap, if your looking for a permanent solution that is what i would reccomend
