Hi,

Not in a hurry on this one, but I'd like some advice on getting a muffler. I have a Magnaflow straight-through muffler with a 2.5" exhaust pipe and no cats. Sounds great at idle, but the older I get I want something quieter for driving long distance. People often comment they can hear me a half mile away. Seriously.

Not too worried about how it sounds, but I want to quiet that thing down with a minimal loss of power. Suggestions?

Straight through resonators and high flow cats. Both will cause little flow restriction but will help with volume. 2.5" exhaust is plenty big enough to support over 300hp w/o being much of a restriction, even with resonators and cats.

Yeah, I agree with float. Put a kitty in there and a resonator.

Isn't the straight-though muffler I have a resonator or are you suggesting a add another one? Serious question.

A cat would help for the air and the soot that sometimes comes out, so it's probably not a bad idea. Does it really make it that much quieter?

Thanks

Add another one. But there is a difference between a muffler and a resonator too. Usually a resonator has a smaller volume than a muffler.

Yes, a cat quiets the exhaust down quite a bit.
