Hey sup guys Im a newcomer to this site...I have a 1992 240sx se ofcourse it has the ka24de it had a gutted cat and the resinator/muff has been removed and it has some dumb universal exhaust on it...Well anyways its way to loud and draws way to much attention with cops.Well anyways I been thinking If I should replace My headers with hot shot headers do a High flow cat and up my pipe sizing from 2.0 to 2.5 maybe 3.0 or far an between. The only thing is what would sound the best on the Ka motor I been leaning towards hks Hipower/apexiIN1/GreddySp2 or Im really leaning towards blitz Nur spec.....Help please...Ohh by the way does any one have some great advice on headers possibly better then hot shot and a decent intake ...leaning towards Injen....Help

All are really expensive exhaust systems....If your motor is stock I do not reccomend larger than like 2 1/4" - 2 1/2". I would say buy a muffler that is alittle cheaper and have an exhaust shop install it.(doesnt need to be mandrel bent like some people will tell you)

I would reccomend 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" because since the engine is still stock. and 3" piping will be way too loud since the resonator's removed and the cat gutted. your car will be the cop's favorite car. Anything around 3" will be loud. For the intake, Injen. Or you can try AEM. They're both pretty good.

Don't go any bigger than 2.25" on an NA KA24DE. Any bigger and your starting to lose performance. Have you thought of going with a custom BRM exhaust? They will custom build you a mandral bent exhaust system with straight through muffler (straight out, not angled) with (or without) a resonator... Then you can either hook it up to your gutted cat, or buy a test pipe. The resonator will take care of the loudness quite a bit, so you can keep the gutted cat, or a test pipe.

That's the way I'm going for my exhaust.

don't you dare let InsanityInc read that.

3in is not too big for N/A so you can definately go larger than 2.25.

this better not turn into another which size is better thread, so i'm just sayin definately dont try to tell someone that one size is the right choice, especially if you cant back it up

Yeah, i think that InsanityInc answered that exact question in a different thread on this forum.

Due to the large displacement of the KA motor, 3 inches is nowhere near too big for an NA application. Gains have been seen and documented time and time again on NA KA motors with 3" exhausts. However, 3" is ungodly loud on NA apps, so if you are concerned about being cop bait, then i would choose the 2.5" exhaust and you should be set.

The difference in performance, especially if your motor is mostly stock, shouldnt be that great.

I would dare to say that the HotShot Header is the more popular of the two headers offered for the KA motor, and either intake, as long as they are the same diameter, will net you about the same gains.

If I were doing your exhaust setup, I would go the HotShot Header, a Catco or Magnaflow Hiflow cat, and a 2.5" BRM (gotta support NICO!!) Stainless Exhaust with a 22" resonator. Lots of good things said about the BRM exhausts along with a non-ricey sound, check the Sticky. But that is just me.
