you should go for 2.5in piping. It will sound better and be less restrictive overall. Otherwise it may sound bad and youll get minimal hp gains if any.

Yes, the KA does benefit from less restriction as do most motors.... lol

2.5" diameter piping is very common for people who are staying NA, however there are gains to be had with going with 3" on an NA KA.

Personally, I found 2 universal Magnaflow Race Series mufflers on ebay and had a custom exhuast shop weld me up a 3" exhuast system, and I dont find it all that loud. It is loud, loud enough to set off some car alarms in a parking deck, but no so loud you can hear me from a 1/4 mile away, and does quiet down once i start cruising.

Mostly it is a matter of preference, since you have a muffler that has a 3" inlet, I might go with 3" diameter piping and find a secondary muffler if you were concerned about how loud it was going to be.

just axle backed today with 2 1/2" sounds way better than 1 5/8" stock pipe. Even with the couple leaks I got to fix, it changed the sound of the fart can and feels a bit easier to accelerate. I can also say if you have noise concern double muff it for the win. I did my wifes jimmy with 2 mufflers and no cat yep no cat ,just a summit turbo then pipe with o2sens and another summit turbo muff. she didnt like the open headers or single muffler setup(too loud) but the twin muff setup she digs. Nice tone but not I'm riding the piss out of it sound. With the second muffler reversed it has a nasty sounding little blap blap to it. I had one on the nissan and it sounded good(alot of comments) I just dont like that big oval sitting in back. FUGLY best sounding ka I ever heard was a kat with nothing but a downpipe aaaaaaaammmmmmaaaazzzzzzzzzinnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg!

Yes I am running a 3" Tanabe SMR catback. And I def. felt a difference in more of a top gain than I did at low end torque. I believe that if you do go with 3" piping on a KA, its RFL!! And I learn that from my own experience. lol And I've heard 2.5" on them and they sound decent.

yea,i got the full apex'i 3' Dual N1 pipes and muffler on my car, slight, torque loss at low idle, for example be4, in 5th gear, at 40 i was ok, now with these pipes, the car seems to be really laggy on throttle till it hits around 45-50MPH. but it sounds insane above 3500 RPM, and sets off car alarms hehe
