Well since I just recieved some money I'm going to be putting it into my sr. Next thing I need is a clutch so.. debating on the exedy stage 2 or SPEC stage 3

Exedy st. 2 - 380$3 puck discholds up to 400hp

Spec st. 3 - 340$6 puck discholds up to 450 ft/lbs of torque

Not sure which one to go with. I know a lot of people around here like exedy. Anyone have experiences with either of these?

I have a exedy stage 2, It's never slipped and I like it but I can't find a replacement clutch disk. I called exedy, got the part number, called all there supplier's and googled my ^$$ of with no luck. It sucks. I did find some replacement clutch disks in china but after shipping cost's it would probable cost the same as the hole clutch kit. Exedy customer service told me they have them in stock but I would need to get it from there supplier's. There supplier's told me they would order it for me and they would call me back !!!

1 suppliers told me that I should never replace just the clutch disk because the pressure plate will explode from not being replaced with the disk from too much heat ! I find that kind of hard to believe and think he just wanted to sell me a hole clutch kit. 1 & 1/2 year of daily driving @ about 250whp with about 18 drift days, 10 drag race test and tune's and 1 autocross I think I just about got my money's worth out of the clutch kit. It still has a couple month's left. I would like to be able to replace the clutch disk at least 1 time rather than a hole kit every 2 year's.

I'm really starting to wonder if it would be ok to put in a act 6 puck and have the pressure plate and flywheel resurfaced. The pressure plate feels as strong as the day I got it. Anyone know if that would be ok?

You should be replacing the pressure plate when you replace the disk.

As far as clutch stuff goes, I have had very good experiences dealing with spec. Friendly people and very good about taking care of problems if they come up. Hell I even helped them prototype a Maxima flywheel!

Yeah, that sucks about not being able to find the replacement disc, but if you got 2 years out of it and used it to it's potential than it seems worth it.And yeah I would probably replace the pressure plate as well if I was changing the disc out

Any more opinions on which would be a better choice?

Im pretty sure either one would be fine. I never had a problem with my spec stage II.

Personally, I think RPS clutches are better than Exedy or Spec and I speak from experience. They are a bit more expensive, but hold more power. I did like my Stg II Spec in my other car though.

Oh and never buy a clutch for it's HP rating, it should be the TRQ rating that you want to go by. For instance, something rated at 400hp could mean that it will only hold 300ftlbs of trq or less... Always, purchase a clutch based on it's trq rating...

Yeah, I found it weird that they rated it by hp and not torque. Oh well this thread is done I purchased the clutchmasters stage 3
