Well I finally got my CA up on a stand and got a look under the pressure plate.

1)Are Exedy clutches factory issue pieces on the CA? I'm assuming not. Can anyone identify this piece?

2)Does this mean there's some back catalog entry in Exedy's books for a CA clutch and therefore we've got at least one other option than going with SPEC?

3)How beat on does this thing look? Is the fraying out the sides of the clutch normal wear? I'm trying to estimate what sort of use this engine had before it reached me.

Thanks.

EDIT: I just realized, daikin = exedy, and I think daikin does some of nissan's stock clutches. Perhaps this is stock?

Here's a table of the OEM and Manufacturer numbers for the pressure plate. I cant see very well in your picture but if you can match either the OEM part number or the Daikin part number chances are it's stock :)

table

hope that helps out :)

*edit*---------------------------------------------------I dont think it's stock after all :) looks like Daikin's single plate organic line of clutch.

Thanks for the list Import_Ant. The daikin part number is NSD050U (not in the stock list), and it does appear to be that organic clutch that you found.

Can anyone give me any thoughts on my clutch's condition? I know it'd be easier to replace the clutch before I put the engine in but if this one's ok I'd consider putting it back.

it looks fine to me. i dont think you will have any problems at all if you just use it. seeing that in there though i would want to check out the engine's insides to make sure it didnt take a real beating. good find though!

Its an organic single disk that looks in good shape. I dobut that your motor is in jeproady. How about PP and FW? Any treats there?

I suppose I'm just concerned about putting it back because there are a small section along the flywheel side's edges that I can flake apart with my finger. I'm inquiring with Exedy/Daikin about whether they still offer the clutch I have; it'd be nice to drop in a fresh duplicate and not worry about it.

Perhaps they can be convinced to turn out a version of their Hyper Single clutch/flywheel combo, if they don't already have one in a back catalog. I'm not holding my breath but I'll let you know what they say.

As for PP and FW, just the stock stuff. Which is ok with me; the less done to the engine before it got to me should mean the more likely it was owned by an old lady, right?

An old lady running 10s!!!!!!:ylsuper

.... uh.. that didn't really have any significance to the thread... but I did wana mention that if you do toss a new clutch in there you'd wana get the flywheel resurfaced..... you probably already knew that though.
