lets put it this way, the first time you try it, your gonna get stuck, and break a lot of ****e, not have all the right tools, and if you ever do get the thing running its going to take 5 times as long as you had planned. the second time it gets a little easier. this was the 5th motor ive disassembled and removed, by myself. took roughly 10hrs from start to finish using nothing but hand tools and taking the time to label and sort all the stuff i removed. the only way your ever going to learn is to do it yourself, unless you have deep pockets and can afford to have all your work done professionally. I do not. and i can see in the future that i will be pulling and installing lots of motors...my advice is to take your time, label EVERYTHING, and make sure you have alternate transportation while your learning what not to do.Craving4Boost wrote:how difficult is it to take out a motor and swap in another one? can an adverage joe like me be able to do it? i always wanted to learn
good advise. when I tear a motor down I stop by the local grocery store for a box of ziplock bags and a magic marker it helps to have a ton of bench space to work with too.superDorifto wrote:...my advice is to take your time, label EVERYTHING, and make sure you have alternate transportation while your learning what not to do.
oh, and USE CHAINS!!!!!!!!
and when your ready to put it back together you can soak all those rusty nasty *** bolts and clips you allready have organized to clean them up a bit. Theres a ton of rust remover chemicals to use. im planning on replacing all the bolts on the timming cover and valve cover and head with stainless steel hex keys. its the little things that make a project turn out good..Import_Ant wrote:good advise. when I tear a motor down I stop by the local grocery store for a box of ziplock bags and a magic marker it helps to have a ton of bench space to work with too.
That's a good question, because on the DE pan, that little "nubbin" is welded on (and not so professional-lookin'), whereas the rest of the pan is just one piece. Looks like an after-thought.sil80drifter wrote:hoe come the DE oil pan looks so frikkin weird compared to the E pan? It has this like... nubbin on the side where the oil drain plug is... wtf is that? extra oil space? I want one! does it fit ok next to the sway bar?
