Hello, Nico Clubbers. My name is Carlos and I've been a lurker for what seems like over a decade or so. Originally grew up just outside Washington D.C in Maryland but my job relocated me to sunny Miami, FL as of 3 years ago. My entire background is heavily centered around motorsports and automotive advertising working for brands like FIAT USA, McLaren Automotive, and others. I must admit I've been a German car owner my entire life but there was always something about the R32 GTR...

Finally, to the meat of my introduction. I'm happy to say that I have finally pulled the trigger and imported/purchased a very clean 1989 Skyline GTR from southern Japan. Photos are below.

My purchase decision and experience has been completely trouble-free thanks to Ryan Arends at Ganesh Moto here in Miami. I can't say enough good things about Ryan, very knowledgeable person, and helpful with the entire process. Ganesh Moto took care of everything from sourcing the car, importing, submitting all paperwork and documentation to clear customs, and finally registered/titled/tagged the Skyline in Miami successfully. He even managed to find me the vanity plate "305 GTR" so needless to say, very happy going through Ganesh Moto.

Yesterday was the first day, after a month long process, that I finally was able to take the car home. I took it on an extended highway drive to get a better feeling for the car, how it drives, and to pin point any noises/issues I could hear or feel. I'm absolutely satisfied and very impressed with the driving dynamics. Still getting used to RHD but that's expected.

The car is modified with what seems like a clean and very thought out mentality. I had a solid idea of what I was looking for and this car checked off everything on my list given that my intention is to seldom drive on the streets but focus on the track. Therefore this particular GTR is all set.

The oiling issues (crank/collar) is something I'll be looking into before it ever makes it to the track under my ownership but for now we are just focusing on critical systems check. Ensuring that everything functions as it should and finding a reputable GTR shop in Miami are next on my list. A dyno + tune session is in order to get the car acclimated to 93 octane. My personality is not very flashy and I spend my weekends already at the racetracks either in cars or working so i get enough HP doses to not make me want a 1000hp build. We think she makes 350-400 at the wheel and that's just fine.

For now, I'm enjoying it for this weekend before parking it again. Feels great to join this family and looking forward to interacting with you all here at Nico Club. Cheers,

Nice looking car. I lived in Japan for 10 years but moved back last year for a new career and had to leave my R33 behind. I miss it terribly. But, I'm sure one day, I'll own another one.

Just to give you a heads up, if you ever have to order parts from Japan, be ready to pay through the nose. The GT-R tax for parts can get pretty ridiculous. But, it's all well worth it.

Welcome to NICO and we hope to be able to help you out should you have any questions.

Thanks, Gold Digger. Much appreciated. I'm still trying to build that network and get a better idea of where to source parts...it definitely helps to know that I can come here and ask around. Some parts I've already sourced from the GTR Shop in the UK.

I just turned the car back into Ganesh Moto in Miami so that they can do some work. During the import process it seems someone placed a box or something with sharp edges that caused swirl scratches on the trunk lid. Gotta buff that out, hopefully, and install the OEM rear wing + basic maintenance like plugs, oil change, coolant flush etc.

I'm looking to install an oil pressure sensor. Anyone have good recommendations? i've seen some sandwich plate ones that hook up to through the oil filter and I'm tempted to use one of them.

I actually kinda like a 32-R with no rear spoiler, but with or without the lip.

Not sure. I haven't added an oil pressure gauge in ages.

You never know...the auto industry, specially motorsports, is a very close knit community. What background in auto?
