Sooooo.....

I found a 1993 300zx TT in saphire blue.
5 speed,
t tops,
1 owner with maintaince records, Timing belt, water pump...has been done
100k.

And I stole it for $4k.

It has been driven sparenly for the past 5 years. The lady told me she would just take it around the neighborhood until it would get warm and then bring it back and put in the heated garage. Very dusty but amazing shape. Interior excellent. everything seems to work. On a battery tender. It started right up and idled smoothly. It did have a tick at the top middle of the engine. Valve tick, intake leak, exhaust leak??? Boost sat at -12 or so, goosed the throtle and it jumped up to 0 or close to. The idle did rise when I depressed the clutch, weird.

Took the car out for a ride, clutch seem good, reverse worked well, ran it through 1st 2nd and hit third at low revs. No brakes at all, none zero zip. Brought her back and looked at the brake rewsivior and it was dry. looked at the calipers and none showed obvious leakage. All the the inside of the wheel were dry. No marks under the car. The Master cylinder did have a bunch of corrosion, so that is my guess on the noo brakes issue. Plenty of brake pad visible.

Question time:

Obviously I need a master cylinder.
Need to change out all the fluids (Cluctch, Diff, Trans, Motor oil, Rad was bright green so maybe)
Anything to check for the tick?
What else should I be looking for?

Thanks you all in advance,

LDMF

Luckyyyyy, I love the sapphire blue color, so sad I'm forced to part mine. Post up some photos. And of course CONGRATS and WELCOME.

Picks will be coming. I have to have it towed or try a quick fill and bleed of the brake system to get her home.

Congrats on the purchase.

The lifters are known to do that. What some try (I have as well) is run some engine cleaner through when this happens. Good idea to change the oil shortly after this.

Nissan coolant is green in color. Could take a reading to measure it's strength. Also, if it hasn't been changed in a few years good idea to change it.

Congrats, and I'm also envious as I went looking for one when I got mine, but two years later the two I was able to find both were sold.

Given the corrosion of the brakes, check for corrosion of the injector connectors and any others as well, looking for green corrosion. This could be your unstable idle, and the clutch idle increase could be from a vacuum leak as the clutch is boosted like the brakes.
That about covers things other than getting nit-picky and changing out vacuum hoses and PCV/IACV hoses/connectors, and other mid-level maintenance...good luck and enjoy!

Sweet find dude!!! And welcome to Nico!

For the tick, before you change the oil, drain 1 qt from the oil. Then add 1qt of ATF and run it for a couple minutes to let it warm up. It will thin out the viscosity of the oil and in most cases push it's way into that stuck lifter and free it up.

For the brakes, I'd get a rebuild kit from CZP. https://conceptzperformance.com/Cart/de ... php?II=753 Clean it out real good when you do that, then maybe use a cheaper brake fluid for a week, then cycle it to clean it out.

Like DCaff said, go through the connectors, clean them real good and put an electrical grease to keep them clean. Then hunt down your boost leak, that's gonna probably be your boost leak and rough idle.

POST PICS!!!

This just was posted in a different thread regarding brakes, and in your case I think that it is something you should pay attention to as you work through the brake system:

Be sure to do this when you get to this stage, it surely will help you come away with a correctly-operating brake system.

Id recommend using the engine flush for that tick. Z1 carries it:

On the master id order one from autozone.com fairly cheap(lifetime warranty) vs the headache of a rebuild :

finding that boost leak(vacuum at idle) might be made easier if you get a can of brake clean and spray around suspected areas

z1 sells a boost leak tester pretty cheap as well
