Excessive tire wear

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I have a 2010 EX35 with only 15,400 miles on it, it has Michelin Latitude tires, 17", dealer told me I needed new rear tires, and sure enough, the right rear tire is nearly bald, and the left has a bit more tread. The front tires look like new! Unfortunately we didn't rotate them, but before I buy new rear tires I'm wondering if something is wrong with the car for this uneven wear to have occured. Any ideas? Thanks. I don't drive aggresively and the car has only been through one winter. There is more tread on the inside of the tire than the outside.

Check alignment maybe? Sounds like the camber is messed up....

Did you do an alignment? I have nearly the same amount of miles on my EX with 17" Michelins and I still have about 70% tread on my rear tires about 45% on the front. Maybe rotating them, aligning them and possibly the tire pressure could have an affect on how the tires tread (such as over inflating and underflating the air in the tires). Since I've purchased my car, I've made sure to take up every page the dealer has offered at each service, which included checking the tire pressures, alignment and tire rotations every 5,000 miles (..and whatever else is included).

Ditto on the "alignment" and "inflation" as being possible culprits. Tires just don't wear unevenly like that without something being out of spec. If you posted some pics of your rear tires, I'd bet someone here would be able to help point you in the right direction. If not--just make sure you have a 4-wheel alignment done when you get new tires.

Also (as dumb as this may sound) make sure they inflate your tires to the recommended pressures. I can't tell you how many times I've had new tires installed only to find out all four had different pressures in them--or were all way over inflated.
