Excessive play

Ok so I just got a s14 and the guy who had it b4 put in a short shifter. Not sure what brand. But there is a lot of play left to right in a gear in all gears. Some one said throw out bearing but that doesn't seem to make any sense I think the kids a dumbass. But what I think is shifter linkage or a worn bushing but ive never done a shifter in these cars so pointers anyone?

The throw-out bearing has no influence on a shifter's feel.

It could be the bushing on the lower tip of the shifter.
Pull it out and take a look at what's worn.

Lmfao anyways I checked the bushing and all seems well with it but now the car smells like hella bad burning gear oil and my speedometer stopped working all I hear are the bills in my wallet screaming as they are torn from there comfy home so I gotta bring the car up on jacks sense it smells and is smoking I'm ganna take a huge guess and say the the sensor popped out an it's leaking yet no leaks on the floor hmmm weird
