Excessive play in the driveshaft?

Finally got around to installing my DS. Noticed I have about 1" play in the driveshaft. I'm sure I measured it correctly, I measured roughly 45 3/4" from the output shaft to the flange. It seems to be pretty excessive.

setup: RB25, S14, R33 VLSD, Syko mounts.

bah forgot to mention that.. custom 1 piece and I mean back and forth play.. or as you said in and out of the output shaft. 1" seems excessive but I never really measured the play in the stock DS when I had the KA.

How can it slide back and forth if you have it bolted to one end? When i put my McKinney drive shaft in i had to put it in then pull it a lil. back for it to work.I wouldnt worry about it to much.

I never bolted it to diff input flange, just slid the yoke all the way into the transmission output shaft. There is a gap with it slid in all the way between the diff and DS. I know there should be some play but 1" seems pretty excessive to me.

The rule of thumb is to measure from the output shaft in the transmission to the input flange on the diff and subtract 1/4". One inch seems like a lot of play to me, but I don't know what the negative effects will be, if any. I don't think you'll be putting down enough power to actually break the shaft, but it may introduce some vibration into the drive train.

if he still had a stock 2 piece then yes it would move around in the tunnel b/c of the stock carrier bearing

roughly 3-1/4" inches, the yoke is 4-1/4"

That's what I'm thinking, just looking for a consensus.
