my son bought a 2003 Nissan sentra SR spec v with the 2.5 engine. the car had 69,000 miles on it.he has only put 3,000 miles on it,we checked the oil today it was 3 qt,s low this car also has the nismo package.the tail pipe is very black and sooty.this car was stored for 3 years before it was sold at dealer auction, the car runs great, and i see no sighs of plug fouling {i haven't pulled one yet}. theres no oil on the motor or in my drive way.is it possible that the valve seals have gone bad? or rings are shot?(i hope its not the rings) it does smoke when its cold but not that much.thanks

First off I would call dealer and check to see if the recall has been done.if it has is the check engine light on?I have seen alot of them and the cat comes apart and takes out the motor. The oil will be a grayish color.

had nissan do a compression check, got 155 psi on all cylinders.they are telling me engine is almost gone need a new one :( thats what you get when you buy a used car.i think the precat took this engine out.the recall for engine exhaust was done but dont know if this included the precat. call nissan got a file case going they told me at the dealer that a reman engine was 2100.00 im going to see if i can get them to replace the engine or at least cover half the cost.

IM IN VIRGINIA. the talk with Nissan was promising but they want to talk to the service dealer first. heck id be happy if they covered half the costs.

This is going to sound crazy, but the fact that the compression is even across the board sounds odd. We had a Camry we put a new motor in with similar symptoms come in to my father in laws shop. We Seafoam'ed the motor and it stopped consuming oil. I suspected the rings were sticky and the seafoam un-stuck them. For the price of a can, it certainly doesn't hurt to try. I'll see if I can find the link where AZHitman did a how-to.
