Exaust silencer question

I have heard that if you run a silencer, that it can cause some issues with your turbo. Is this correct and if so, what are they?

you dont cause issues with the turbo but you do create a lot of back pressure which means less HP.

Thanks, Thats what I wanted to know. Someone had told me that the back pressure could cause the turbine blades to get damaged. Is that false?
