That's cool. All it needs now is a GPS connected to the monitor.

For $1K, I could build an in-car PC with DVD/CD/MP3 player with navigation and XM radio. Dont forget wireless internet for browsing NICO while sitting in traffic. And of course, a high resolution VGA touchscreen to control it all.

No, put just as you can put an aftermarket HU (with off the shelf adapters), I'm sure a little ingenuity could get you the "low level" signal you need to send to the Bose units.

I'm assuming the Q speakers can only work with the Q head unit (and extenral amp??). If this is the case, you would be better off retaining the Q head unit. No problem there...The $1K is a ball park figure for the PC. Depending on options (accessories, mounting positions, etc), it can be more or less.My first post above wasnt an advertisment or anything. I stated $1K cause thats about the price of a in-dash DVD player/LCD screen from Clarion or Kenwood. And who would want a Clarion when you could have more features and unlimited expandability for the same price??When I stated looking into this carPC thing, I decided I could have everything I wanted for $1K so thats the number Ive been using. Its just a starting point. I'm sure 92Q and I can work something out if he's interested.

So, can you tell me a little more about these speakers?

The Q's (and ALOT of Nissan's) use amplified speakers, meaning the amp is "piggy backed" onto the speaker itself. The design concept was to support/allow for a modular replacement.

These amp'ed speakers receive a low level (RCA - millivolt) signal from the HU, versus the "normal" high level (speaker - watts) signal sent to most speakers from the main source (sans amp).

I have the pin out info for the plugs on the back of the 2 most common Bose HU's used in the Nissan/Infiniti line.

That's an overview, let me know if you'd like some specific questions answered.

Great info, RexThe two basic options are running the PC sound thru an aux input on the stock HU oreliminating the HU and running the PC sound directly to amps (and then speakers).Normally the second option requires buying a 4ch amp or pair of 2ch amps. But if the Q's speakers have 'built-in' amps, you should be able to run the sound from the PC straight to the amp/speaker. IMO that is the ideal situation! Those HU pinouts will definitely come in handy. And I'm sure I'll have some more questions for you.

Great info. I don't mind retaining the stock bose speakers. My car has the 94+ pillar tweeters, so that combined with some dynamat will have fine clarity..

I'm concerned with features the most. I want the screen to be touch..

Aside from that I don't have mcuh experience with this stuff, so I'll let you guys run with it. I'm good with PCS, but I would rather have someone better with sound and this type of stuff run with it
