I feel ashamed being a veteran of these kind of things and asking a question like this, but can anyone tell me the exact location of the coolant temp sensor for a DE S13? My car has been running super rich and the temp gauge on the interior never comes up at all. Not hard to see what's causing this..................

just follow the upper rad hose. Courtesy sells the sensor for a 30zx for like $12. Exact same thing as the 240sx sensor. Goodluck.

The sensor that gives the reading to the gauge cluster is completely different from the sensor that gives a reading to the ECU. Just because the gauge doesn't read anything...it doesn't mean the ECU doesn't see anything. There are 2 water temp sensors.

I got it, and replaced both. I figured if something caused one to go bad the other was probably SOL too. Definetly fixed the gauge problem, time will tell if the mix evens out. Lets hope so!!!

i changed my broke thermostat about last weekend, and just the other day my check engine light came on. i went to autozone to get it checked and it turend out to be the coolant temp sensor, code P0125 or something. anyone know if this is the gauge sensor or the ECU sensor? could it malfunction because of air in the coolant system? my gauge works, but it sometimes gos up and down constantly, then levels out, the goes again, all during normal driving, help? plz?

I would change both of them, it's what I did. Whatever causes one to go bad probably causes the other to. I paid around $30 for both of them at AutoZone, and they are real easy to change.

Well...if the ECU threw a code, it seems pretty obvious that either a) it is the ECU sensor or b) you overheated or water temps got really hot because of air in the cooling system, causing the thermostat to stick closed.

you get the air out by taking off the radiator cap and letting the car run for a while, right? and adding cooland as needed

also, the temp gauge works fine, but fluctuates sometimes, but never goes near the high mark, so im thinking its gotta be the air going past the gauge temp sensor that's making it do that

There is a bleeder screw for that particular purpose in the metal water neck on the block where the upper rad hose meets the engine. You can remove that and run the engine till coolant starts runnign out of it, then screw it in, and be sure to refill the rad as needed.
