EX35 WITH G37 MUFFLER SOUND! - UPDATED VIDEO

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

So far I have only seen ONE Youtube video of a stock EX35 with a G37 coupe muffler. This one posted by one of our members here: TXwagon
We all know that the car sounds great on the first startup early in the morning. =)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQQ4mhwetbU

Here is mine same setup, but just using a Galaxy S3 phone in HD.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5ViOHRV ... e=youtu.be

My car is already heated up. I did it in the parking lot, so the sound won`t reflect back...(echo)
Maybe I will use my Sony NEX5n next time for better sound quality?

I noticed there is a slight hissing sound (back pressure?) that will become more obvious when you change the cat to High Flow Cat like the Berk.

I am planning to get a stock mid-pipe from G37 coupe. So far there is no low end torque loss with this setup.

Updated VIDEO : Car is already warmed up. Startup ---- 3K RPM REV -----5K RPM REV ---- 7K RPM REV -----TAP less 2k RPM ----TAP less than 2k RPM.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRjeJHtn ... e=youtu.be

Open parking lot...... not in a garage....

BTW, this is the updated G37 coupe muffler (all silver dull color canister - no black canister) but not the expensive G37 sports coupe muffler $750 + with shiny muffler canister.

I love the sound so far. Not a screamer, but a little throatier sound is a good hint (of 297HP) - Keeps me from being bullied by Civics and Corollas..

Do you happen to know if the G37 coupe mid-pipe will fit in to the ex35 ?
As long as the mid pipe diameter from the coupe is the same as the Ex35, I will go for this mod.
I do not want a 2.5" mid-pipe bec. It might lose some low end torque or responsiveness of the line. 2.25" is good enough.
I am just curious if the mid-pipe from the g37 coupe is a bit louder than our EX35. (I am strictly going for a bit louder sound, but not as loud as the TANABE or aftermarket ones...)
I hope the G37 coupe mid-pipe does not create raspy sound signature....

For a brand new G37 coupe muffler, the cost is $500+

There are many sellers at www.myg37.com who sells their G37 coupe muffler for $100 or less. Infact, there is a guy that sells the whole Y-pipe to muffler for $250.
I had seen one that sold his IPL Ypipe to muffler for $300!

Currently, all we know is the G37 coupe muffler is a bolt on to our EX35/37.
Can anyone try if the G37 coupe midpipe will fit too? I am sure the G37 midpipe sound gives that distinct G37 roar that we could not get from just replacing the muffler in our EX35/37. It is close, but not totally the same....

This will be my next project. I am closing a house and I dont have time right now to experiment.

Sounds excellent.

This is good information.

So there is no drone whatsoever in any rpm range?

No Drone so far specially on the highway. I enjoy driving the EX more! It is not really loud. It is just a bit louder and deeper sound than the stock when you gun it! Idling, just a deeper sound , but no burbling sound....

The sound is perfect! Gives it a hint of the VQ engine HP.

I heard the IPL and the $700 sports Coupe muffler sound much better! Has more roar! I know for $700 you can buy a full cat/back aftermarket exhaust, but the guy bought it for sound only and to be closed to the VQ sound coupe .

This is great. I have been looking into a similar configuration for my 2008 EX35 journey. Since all the threads point to the fact that the mufflers are interchangeable this may be a worthwhile investment to get some more noise from the V6. I have started looking around but I am not sure what kind of deals will keep this experiment within budget. For example I found this on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/08-09-10-11-12- ... 97&vxp=mtr

This should work, correct? Pull the trigger or hold out?

Granted that the price is half cheaper than a brand new one, but wait.
You can get a non S for the same sound as the regulat G37 coupe exhaust for $100 or less. The lowest I've seen here for sale is $75 plus shipping.

Just make sure you pick the silver color muffler and not the black coated one. The silver color is the updated version which does not have the rattling sound issue of the old version.

Anyone happen to know what the part numbers are for the gaskets and bolts which mount the muffler?

You could use a generic 57mm 2 bolt gasket, or use high temp RTV sealant. You can probably reuse the bolts or get some stainless bolts from an autoparts store or even a hardware store.

Demfer,

Just in case you found a G37 coupe muffler, before you install it, could you please measure the diameter of the EX35 midpipe end that goes toward the muffler?

Pls. let me know. I'm planning to get a G37 coupe midpipe which I heard has 2" diameter, but if the EX midpipe also has a 2" diameter, then I wont change it.

It should be 2.25" (57mm).

I did a lot of research online, and everything indicates that all the Gs and EXs use a 2.25" (57mm) diameter, except for the IPL versions. I haven't had the time to put my car on a lift to check for myself. but I'd except to the exterior diameter to be around 2.5", so that would indicate the ID is 2.25" as expected. hm.. Actually... I can check it without a lift, just need to find my caliper. BRB. Haha.

Hm... I just came back from poking around under the car, it's a 44C right now (uh... 120F?), I'm done melting for the day.

It looks like the 2.25" is referring to the Y-pipe. The pipes that connect to the exhaust are both 1.5" each. That means there's a substantial restriction after the split in the exhaust system for our EX cars.

Applying basic math, A = pi * r^2..

2.25" diameter = 3.976 sq.in. area
1.5" diameter * 2 pipes = 3.534 sq.in. area

The difference is 0.442 sq.in. (11.1%) less right at the muffler

I'm going to have to put the car on a lift now that I've gotten my curiosity piqued. I blame all of you guys! Haha.

The Y pipe on the G37 is way bigger than the Ex35...

G37 looks to be 2.5'' X 2
Ex35 looks to be 2.0'' X 2

Mk15, thanks for checking on this one. :dblthumb:

I would like to have an official size difference between the G coupe vs ours in this format. Internal diameter (ID) not flange.

Y-pipe: G37/EX35
Inlet diameter- 1.75" (ID) /
Outlet diameter- 2.375 " (ID)/

Midpipe: G37/EX35
Inlet diameter-
Outlet diameter-

Muffler: G37/EX35
Inlet diameter

To bigbenex35, you sure about this?
It seems like i would like to change my whole setup to G37 coupe.

There is a guy who made a comment on my youtube video EX35 with G37 coupe muffler and he did try replacing each parts and compared. Though, he was going strictly for sound, but I am trying to get a bit of breathing mod (cheaper price) and trade a bit of the cool sound of my G muffler. My EX is Uprev'd Etuned and i can retune it even if the exhaust diameter gets a bit bigger. (Compensating for a the mod) - i do not have to pay anything for retune. ( a guy does it for me for $100 lifetime etune) :naughty:

Here is my youtube link. I actually PM'ed him (WhatIThinkNation) today, but has not been responded yet.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s5ViOHRV52M

Pls. read his comment. ;)

If you guys are curious with the Uprev tune. Here is my 0-45 MPH run from dead stop. On a 17" stock rims and snow tires. 47 degrees F. on flat surface. Speed limit is 45 MPH (I should have done 50  ). I"ll post 0-60 when i put back my summer rims/tires. Last year i run 6.3 sec from dead stop at 89 F temp, but that was with the stock Electronic throttle MAP . This 0-45 MPH i did was with an aggressive throttle MAP setting. ( no throttle plate restriction just WOT at 2.3k RPM !)

Image

I'm guessing with this run (4.15 sec) seems like high 5 secs 0-60 . What do you guys think? BTW, don't get me wrong, I did the tune for better lowend- midrange drivability. Much, much better pick up now.

Are these actually tube diameters and not flange?

I heard soemthing about 1.75 or lower for a Y-pipe even for a G coupe.

I just read this today and it is very interesting to read.

Interesting. Maybe I've made some incorrect assumptions, namely that the differences people are reporting in the diameters are due to the different engines: 3.5 vs 3.7.

As for where I measured:

Using a caliper, I measured the pipe right before the flange, an inch or so before the flange and another couple inches before that too. All came out to about 1/5th more than 1.5". So doing the math, the pipe's ID was around 1.5".

The only way to know for sure, at least for my car, is to put the car on a lift and measure everything. The one assumption I will have to make will be regarding the thickness of the metal used for the piping. I'm assuming something like 1.5mm is reasonable? I don't want to actually disconnect the exhaust because all the seals/gaskets are meant to be replaced whenever the flanges/clamps are disconnected. And I have no idea where to find these things reliably down here in Panama.

From this info

http://my350z.com/forum/7435408-post15.html

I think it makes more sense to leave the stock midpipe alone, since this will keep the sound closer to the original sound ( no hissing or rasp). To get more scavenging effect, just change the smaller diameter Ex35 Y-pipe to a larger diameter G37 Y-pipe. Thanks a lot for checking the diameter of the Y-pipe guys!

My setup will be

G37 Muffler <----- Ex35 Midpipe <------- G37 Y-pipe. If your goal is to keep the
Lowend /mdrange torque. There is no doubt an aftermarket catback will give you a better high end power, but how often do you drive more than 5.5K RPM? :chuckle:

So my question is , whats the G37 vs EX35 midpipe inlet diameter?

Sure, the 3.7 V6 has really good low/mid torque, but I'm still missing the sound of an angry turbo 4 banger that's super rev happy. I loved stringing out the 2.3L DISI from Mazda so much. But it was definitely a drunken brute compared to the refined VQ37VHR.

Yeah, I test drove a 2013 EX37 and has a bit lowend torque than my 2008 EX35 untuned. I just had to shift more due to close gearing 7 speed transmission in Manual mode.
