EX35 in shop less than 24 hours after picking it up

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Yes, that's right. Picked it up Friday after Thanksgiving in Lexington, KY.The wife and I live in Nashville. So it begins to get dark while we are driving home and we turn the headlights on. We can sort of tell they are on but not very bright. Driving on VERY dark Blue grass parkway from Lexington to I65 I am thinking the lights have to be brighter?? So the wife is driving and attempts to flip on the brights but when she does that, all lights go off. WHOA. We are driving 75MPH in pitch black KY. We slow down and try it again, all lights (outside) go off again. What in the world. I told her just take it easy and when we get home later that night or tomorrow we can sit down with the manual and make sure there isn't some setting from the computer. So we drive another 2+ hours like this late Friday night.

Looked at the manual later that night and the next morning and everything seems straight forward about turning on the lights but the upper main light is not coming on. Just the small less bright lights and/or the fog lights? Are these the headlights?

So Saturday we go by the dealer in Nashville to make sure that I am doing this correctly and get clarification but the saleman was confused too? The headlights are not coming on? So he tells us to pull it in and mechanic looks at it and right away says your headlights are not working or your brights. About 30 min later he comes back and says you can't drive this car like this and we'll give you loaner. I forgot what he called it but something electrical is not sending the signal to the headlights or what not? In summary, we had to turn over the key to the dealer less than 24 hours after picking it up. He is not sure how long it's going to take to fix it or get the part in. Needless to say this is very frustrating. Is the dealer supposed to check basic things like this before they sell a car?

Dealer (Nashville) was great and very quick on a late Saturday but c'mon. Just picked up a 40K car and it's in the shop the next day. We had family in town and were going to show them the car but that idea was canceled.

Just had to vent guys.

All I can say is things happen. Hopefully they do not continue to happen.

When I picked up my EX as it was idling in the parking lot and I was loading the crap from my previous car into it the thing died. Dead battery on the dealerships parking lot not 15 mins after signing the paperwork.

They put a new battery in...give me some free stuff...say sorry a thousand times and it's been fine ever since.

Hopefully you do not continue to have issues.

Haven't heard back from the dealer yet. Hopefully today. I'll keep everyone posted.

I am wondering as well, just being scared would happen to us soon... although it sounds like the circuit(electrical) problem, such as bad relay, couple of burnt fuses.

Thought this thread was most appropriate for my situation.

Anyway, we picked up our vehicle on New Years Eve, and 2 hours after we left, we noticed that one of the intelligent key's did not work. So in our case we were back in the shop 72 hours after the purchase.

Much like the original poster, Infiniti should really have a checklist that each car should go through prior to giving it to the new owner. This would surely alleviate these issues going forward.

Let's start a list here:

1) Make sure that the lights turn on2) That the primary and secondary key works 3) ???

Sorry to burst your proverbial bubble, but this already exists.

Infiniti has a "folder" that's imprinted "Vehicle Preparation and Delivery Process" and on the inside, it has 2 multi-part sections (presumably, one copy for dealer and the other for the customer):a) Service Department - Technical Inspection and Adjustment Checklist(with signoffs by the Technician & Service Manager)b) New Vehicle Sales Department - Sales Inspection(with signoffs by Salesperson and Customer)

I know this only because I found it stuffed into the passenger side door pocket upon arriving home, after taking delivery. Interestingly, a bunch of checkmarks were made on the Service part and signed by the technician (even though several aspects were clearly NOT done), but no Service Manager signature. Needless to say, the Sales part was completely blank.

Doesn't matter how well you design a "system" - it all comes down to the people involved. I guess Lexus still has no competition.

Cheers,David

Thanks for this information. I kind of figured they would have something, didn't realize it was so comprehensive.

As for Lexus, can not comment, (previous cars were Nissan and Honda), but it clearly is the little things that set you apart, and I don't mean bagels and coffee in the service waiting room.

My salesman offered me rubbermats when I get the survey from Infiniti, anyone have any ideas as to why this is so valuable to the dealership??

I want more, especially knowing now there was a checklist that clearly was not followed. That worries me especially when you go in for service.. Are they just checking things off, and they are not doing it??

Trust is important, and this experience has left a slightly bitter taste in my mouth.

I believe that there are bonuses that are dependent on a good customer review. Not sure if they are dealership or salesman bonuses. The dealership will get a better pick of inventory, among other things with a good rating. They bent over backwards for me after a negative handoff experience with the financial aspect of the car.. I complained that no one there knew what the exact price was and how it was broken down on the bottom line. They were running scared and ripped up my $2600 cheque that was for the lease payout on my trade-in. So yes, it is VERY important to them that they get a good review.

It took us about 2 Hours to go through the Vehicle before we left the Dealership.

The Salesman had a checklist, that he went through... and during the whole while, I thought he should know this list in his Head... but it was for our benefit so that we knew every feature, option and accesory was discussed and/or explained.

Good Luck.
