EX35 High Mileage and Transmission?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi all,

I'm checking in to see if anyone has had any transmission problems with their EX35?
Mine is a 2010 and hitting past 150,000 miles now on the odometer.

It's running well and hope to keep the vehicle as I keep my options open.

Also curious to see how many miles everyone has at the moment on their aging EX35.

Thanks! :)

The EX35 is pretty much a G35/G37 mechanically. Both are great reliable cars. The engines and transmission are bulletproof. I've had both a 2004 G35 Coupe and 2006 G35 for 11 years each with just about no issues. The transmissions have no known issues.

Variants of the 5 speeds were also used in some of Nissan's trucks and SUVs (Pathfinder, Frontier, etc). The only issue I've seen is that in those two vehicle models, they would fail due to mixing ATF and coolant through lines that had failed in the radiator. That's no fault of the transmission though.

Other than that, transmission faults in the 5 speed weren't all that common. I believe any major issues reported here on an EX's transmission had occurred on units with much lower mileage than yours. I also haven't really seen or heard anything bad about the 7 speeds either. If you haven't had any issues, you should be good to go. Just make sure to keep up with the maintenance.

Just turned 120K on my 2011 EX35... dealer called out a transfer case seal leak - so that was replaced.

Other than this no transmission issues.

Actually, other than maintenance - this vehicle has had no issues over 4.5 years & 45K miles of ownership.

My 2008 EX35 AWD just hit 175k and when cold, sometimes stumbles to maintain 5th gear. Once the transmission is warm, there is no problem. On very cold days (below zero F), I use sport mode and then once at speed, drive in 4th manually for about 5 miles.

I also have a 2010, 176000 MI and I have zero problems driveline wise. I did have the plastic heater hose inline connector crack and fail, but it was an easy fix. I do get occasional humming / groaning from the front, but I think that's something to do with the wheel bearings. Not sure though. Like I said other than that I have no leaping concerns. Just keep up on the maintenance. Regardless of knowing whether or not it needed it, when I got the car at 160 k I changed all the fluids except transmission with royal purple and change the tranny filter and fluid with the Valvoline max life ATF. No issues so far

EX35/G35 are Infiniti's most reliable vehicles. Probably the radiator on EX/QX are famous...but mechanically speaking, EX is solid.
