EX35 Headrests

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

We just picked up our new 2010 EX35. Navigation, Premium, 18-in wheels. Platinum Graphite with stone interior. As I'm driving to work this morning I'm noticing that the headrest is brushing against the back of my head. I tried raising it all the way, but it still touches my head. If it's just me, I'll deal with it, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had an issue with the headrest being angled just a little too much forward. I don't think the headrest angle can be adjusted, can it? If this has been an issue, does anyone know if Infiniti has done anything to remedy it?

Thanks!

Try tilting your seat back just a little.

I don't have that problem in mine.

I know what you're talking about. I am uncomfortable with my TL since if I have my head on it, my eyes will look down. Titl the seat backward a bit, then it's fine but then I feel like I'm lying flat :)
However, I don't have this issue with my 2010 EX35.

It's mostly due to gov. requirements. The EX is better than most, but yeah, those headrests are more and more becoming issues to front seat occupants.

Yup, I have the same complaint about the headrest in my 2008 EX35. I read that the government made safety rules stricter starting around 2008 (need to leave less space between the head and the seat); I think this link is about it: http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/rulings ... lRule.html

So all recent cars probably have the same problem (though some might have headrests that can be adjusted in more ways to make them more comfortable). Coming from a 2000 car to 2008, it was a pain in the neck (literally) at first. I eventually got used to it, and I think I tilted my seat back a little more.

Headrest is not adjustable (except up and down), so I just removed it. Pray I don't get rear ended! Too bad, it's the little things that creep up on you. Headrests and the lack of TPMS readout.

Thanks for sharing that Link.

I've been telling my Wife, that the Headrest is there for a reason... and she should get used to it bothering her... cause it might save her life some day.

The slowest of Rear-ender Accidents can cause great pain to your Neck. Whiplash can mess you up for the rest of your life.

OK, I'll step down from my Soap-box.

It's not a problem for me or my wife, though I have heard others complain about other 2010 headrests (non-Infiniti) in cars they test drove. For my wife and I, our heads don't even touch the headrest.

I think if you adjust the lumbar in or out, depending on the curvature of your back, you can probably find a position where the headrest is comfortable. As EXceptional said, the headrest is a really important safety feature, so it's worth keeping in.

One of these two might be true for you:
- reducing lumbar support may curve your back, causing your shoulders to move forward, or
- increasing lumbar support may push your back forward, lifting your shoulders forward.

Hope this helps.

SOLUTION: So I pulled the headrest off the driver's seatback and turned it around. Fit right back in the holes and it adds a couple inches of clearance so i don't have to have the seat reclined like a Roman at dinner! Can't believe I didn't think of this sooner!
