EX35 / G37 Exhaust

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Both of the illustrations are out of Infiniti Service manuals. Looks like the G37 is a straight bolt-on.

So my question is... If they're the same exhaust, what makes the G37 sound a lot better?

i am willing to bet the resonator and muffler on the inside is different.

looking at the pic real quick, looks like all the pipe sizes are about the same, so that leads me to believe that they stifled the resonator and muffler to cut out noise in the car....

which makes sense since Infiniti admitted that in order to make the car softer, we lost a few HP.

this is also possibly why it explains that the berk bolt on cat back exhaust gainst 10-15 hp....most of the time a slapped on cat back ...u see like...5-6?

real HP gains with exhaust piping usually comes from cat deletes and a straight pipe/downpipe.

so i would just assume that the G37 has a better breathing resonator + muffler.

I'll soon find out.

Just picked up a G37 rear muffler today for $100.00. Almost like new.

I'll keep you posted if there is a difference in the muffler alone.

it's a shame ur in TX, if u were closer i'd totally make the trip to come check it out. You're also still doing the Stillen intakes right?

also something else i learned today talking to my friend with a FX35, the reason the FX sounds better is because of the load the VQ engine is pushing. Under heavier load, the engine growls considerably much more.

however i dont think that contributes to why a G will sound better than an EX, only between a FX and EX.

FedEx says intakes will be here on 1/9/10.

If the G37 muffler doesn't work out this will go on shortly thereafter.

I've been looking into putting an unresonated g37 stock muffler on my EX

Either that or I might just do straight pipes with stock tips but i'm still not sure what i want to do

This is how my EX sounds with just the chopped resonators

yea that's what my Z sounded like, it's .....raspy... but actually alot of ppl like the way that sounded. for me i'm looking for something more deeper sounding. More like the sound u'd get from straight pipes + HFC + intake.

considering its a lease i'll probably have to make due with just intake and HFC though.

John is that the Berk exhaust?

this is pretty much how my car sounded (almost all the same mods) - it's that low sound i want, not the rasp/whine that you would get from like a pair of HKS cans (unfortunately it seems the mass public likes that better)

this is what i'm trying to avoidhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3i39D3yhm4&NR=1

The G37 has a much different engine. Larger displacement and VVEL likely play a significant role in the sound difference.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrRUt83FC7kThat's the sound I want, also. Would be great if the G37 muffler is a bolt-on for the EX. Not sure about the burnt tips though since I love the stock tips on the EX.. I spend a lot of time polishing them. It's too bad that most sound clips posted are just at idle and then revvin the hell out of the engine. We want to hear idle sounds of course but let's hear what the system sounds like as the vehicle is driven!!

sounds pretty solid, tho i am not really a fan of the titanium burnt tips. moreso cuz this is also stainless steel and not a full titanium exhaust

John, this will fit perfectly? I wonder what gains we get tho? because this would be significantly cheaper than the Berk HFC @ $549.99 vs Megan's $450.00 also i know alot more retailers will carry this due to the popularity of the G37 and end up with a lower price.

let me know how it all plays out

Installed the G37 Coupe muffler.

An exact bolt-on. Took a total of 15 minutes, with the help of my neighbor, to install.

Does it make a difference... maybe, just maybe a little bit deeper in tone. Not the true G37 sound I was hoping for.

My next order of business is to change out the mid pipe with one from a G37.

Guess that is where the true growl sleeps.

One difference is the inset of the actual tailpipe in relation to the tip. The G37 tip measures 2" longer and the tail pipe is inset deeper. Looks better.

Sorry the car is so dirty.

YouTube Vid Pretty Please?

Rather then replacing your resonators ("midpipe") with that of a G37 you'd be SOO much better off just having midas chop off them and welding in a straight pipe to replace them...

It makes it have more of a raspy tone but indeed MUCH more deep and throaty

Just my opinion

I'm going to get the G37 mid pipe. If that doesn't work, I'll chop that one up.

Whenever I take something off the car I keep it intact so it can go back on the car.

Never tried a You Tube video. Guess there's no time like the present.

I'll see what I can do.

Are the tips the same diameter as the EX35's? And do they extend out the same distance now as before? Maybe a low-level side view pic would clear that up. Aren't we all demanding?? Looks great though... nice to know that any aftermarket G37 axle back will fit on our EX's now!

Any difference in performance? I don't really care about the sound, but I'd like to get back the HP that was lost between the G35 and EX35.

With the stock G37 axel back, noticeable power gain is almost impossible...Even with +1~2 whp gain on the EX is most likely not going to make any difference...However it is nice to know that we can use something from G coupe.

txg, I seriously doubt that the mid-pipe will fit and make any difference... We have VQ35HR and not VQ37VHR and the stock exhaust system seems identical. It might turn out to be just the motor difference with this exhaust setup.

My suggestion is try using after market cross pipe to increase the flow.

Has to be some differences from the axle forward. It could very well be in the resonator baffling.

I'm aware their won't be H.P. gains of any significance. Solely looking for the sound.
