EX35 and Infant Seats

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi all - I just bought an EX35 on Monday and so far we are loving it! I bought it for my wife as her new car, but I know I will be driving it a lot (at least I better!)

We are expecting a baby and I wondered if anyone on the forum has installed a car seat in their EX and if so can you share experience, all good, any pics, etc?

The car is adequately sized for the two of us and a baby so I wondered if any parents with small kids are on here and have any good stories to share

Thanks

We have a 2 year old and hence a forward facing car seat. We mounted it behind the drivers seat due to garage access issues as well as when we tried it in the middle it pretty much made the backseat useless for another adult (i.e. the outboard seats were very cramped). The EX is not as roomy as our previouse vehicle (Mazda Tribute) but for the three of us it is perfect, as you mention. I will say the LATCH system is much easier to use and much more accessible in the EX than it was in the Tribute or in my BMW. Good luck!

Well, up until a few months ago, my wife had an '05 G35x, and our son fit just fine in his child seat (he is almost 2 now, but he rode in the G since he was born). We used the seatbelt to fasten the child seat, that seemed to work a lot better than the LATCH system. The infant seat we had was a Chico, and the seat he is in now, which was rear facing for some time in the G, is a Britax Roundabout, that fit fine, the only problem we had was when the Britax was rear facing, the seat could not be reclined back as far. Because of that we placed it behind the passenger seat, also it is easier to had him snacks and toys when my wife is the only other person in the car. Hope this helps, but I think the EX35 should be just fine. We drove and considered the EX35 back in June, but we ended up with a Murano.

The “coupe inspired” EX is a bit more compact and a lot more cut than the FX.The EX’ leather seats may look elegant, more comfortable.EX is an’ five-speed autobox’ seats.

I jsut baught me EX35 last weekend and we have a One month old. I installed the seat no problem behinf the passenger seat and although she hasnt sat in it yet it seems to fit fine. I had a Honda Pilot before the EX which obviously has a ton more room, but to be honest with you.....so far it seems like the EX has plenty.

it is definitly very "coupy" in the back but my Chico Seat fits fine.

Also, I would say dont even consider using seat belts, they have shown to be nowhere near as safe or sturdy as the latches on most cars!! The latches are so easy to us on the EX.

Hope this helps!

New to the club and we are loving our EX. It's just the right size for my wife.

My daughter is currently 5 months old and we've installed a Peg Perego rear facing car seat behind the passenger seat. We need to move the passenger seat forward a bit to fit. But my wife can still sit comfortablely with the passenger seat moved forward. She'll be in a forward facing car seat soon and I don't see any issure fitting that in.

Greeting Everyone,

I had a bit of a difficult time installing my first car seat which was an evenflo forward facing/booster model.

It was so tricky that I decided to pony up for a Britax Frontier. Even with this model I had to release the back seat and move it forward in order for the LATCH anchors to reach and be connected correctly (with less than one inch movement laterally).

But no all is good an my little guy is doing amazing safe and sound!

not only is there very little room for infants, they're not much better for toddlers. in our fx, the seats went back. unfortunately they didn't put that option in the ex, therefore my son sits straight up and can't take a nap cause it doesn't lean back.

i would say forward facing carseats will work just fine with EX but not an Infant seats, i have rear facing Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP, to use this Infact Seat, you have to slide your passengers seat and also tilt it up so no one will have comfort ride in the front passenger seat, as someone mentioned setting it up in the mid rear seat will make the whole real seats useless, good thing my baby is being too big for infant seats now so will upgrade to carseat, hopefully britax will just be fine facing forward.

Hi all,

Has anyone used the Graco Safeseat in the back using the Latch system?? I'm not sure if it's going to fit, or at least the passenger will be comfortable. According to the specs, it's depth is almost 31 inches, and with the seat back it's gives about 25-26 inches clearance.

Again Infiniti created this whole program called snug kids, which shows which carseats were tested in the EX. I noticed people used the chicco and the peg pergego on the back. I am aware that peg perego didn't make the list, not sure of the chicco. (actually just checked - the chicco was on it).

My wife is due in about 6 weeks, so just want to see if anyone else noticed this issue. Thanks

hey exfan - we are using the Chicco Keyfit in our EX and it fits fine in the rear passenger using latch. Here is what we woudn up experiencing -

- Tried using center using belts - wasn't nearly tight enough compared to LATCH.

- Decided to try rear passenger (tried rear driver and did not fit with comfortable driving) and it fits tightly, LATCH is great and VERY easy, but it is tight for the front passenger. So it works

I will say - I am havign second thoughts on our choice of the EX - its our own fault for not realizing how truly tight it is. But you cannot compare it to Murano and Rx350 and others with reclining rear seats and much more room to begin with. I am very disappointed - yes they boast all were tested but they must have assumed nobody woudl be in the passenger seat.

Hope it helps

I completly agree with you on the space. When we went to get our EX we test drove it without the baby in the back, 2 year old. Then when I installed the car seat, passenger rear and we drove for an hour my wife started complaning that there is not enough room in front to stratch her legs. The car is great over all, but I wish it had a little more room.By the way car seat fit perfectly with a latch no complanes on that. exuse my sp.

Thanks Saabin and Yuston for your invaluable feedback. As a result of this, we are now looking at the Keyfit 30 as our option. I noticed that this seat only needs 24" of depth, which will definitely work in the EX.

Again appreciate your advice, and I guess it looks like I or most likely no one with our car will ever purchase the Graco seats.. I'm going to call Infiniti Customer Service just to ask why they would recommend this on Snug Kids knowing the space limitations of our car.

Thanks again!!

Ok.. so we just bought and installed the Keyfit 30 behind the passenger seat.

Is it ok that the back of the infant seat touches the back of the front seat? I've read that it is ok in some articles, and it's not OK in others.

My wife hasn't given birth yet, so she wants the seat back as far as possible.

Anyway, any advice from my fellow EX'ers on this clearance issue would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks!
