EX vs G - Handling

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

My EX is in for a service, I have a G37x as a loaner. I left my EZPass in the EX and had no cash, so had to take the ever so slightly longer way home, but, that meant I got to drive round the almost mile long sweeping curved offramp from I295. I use this offramp as a good indicator on the handling of a car, and was surprised that I didn't feel as comfortable at speed xx in the G as I did at speed xx +15 in the EX. The G just didn't seem to feel as well connected to the road. It was the same a little later on another nice bend.

Anyone else have experience with both? Do the 2 cars have similar suspension set ups? Yes, I realise I'm being lazy and not looking up the differences! Maybe I'll do that now....

Lol most people just run the toll in a loaner. From driving several of both models with differing options I think the G (with the Journey wheels and or S model) are stuck to the ground slightly better than the Gx. Technically they share similar suspension components and a similar spring rate (from the info I found) the key differences are the wheels and tires and the center of gravity. The drivetrain components are pretty similar, the EX uses the VQ35HR motor and the G uses a VQ37 with VVEL and a 7-speed. So the initial experience will be slightly different. If you get a chance to get more comfortable in the 37 you may change your initial statements once you get a feel for its potential.

Personally I find the 7-speed to be pretty seamless and it keeps the engine in a prone position to provide lift off at a moments notice, by up shifting two + gears extremely quickly. Coming from the RE05 in your EX what is your initial impression of the RE07?

I Agree with you on that one man...

My EX always Rapes G's in the corners... I'm sure my Unique tires help some but i find the EX's tend to out handle G's on the track... if i could only COMPLETELY disengage the Traction and stability control like you can in the G's then i'd rock everything.

I need to do a write up about my tires telling you guys about the mod

and I need some H&R springs Sway Bars and Spacers

Maybe steve the tech can help me with my little vdc question?

I had a 2007 G-35 which I traded in for the EX. The handling on table top smooth roads is probably slightly better in the G due to less weight, but if there is any roughness in the pavement, the EX does seem more stable and less likely to dance around. Of course the EX is much smoother on the highway and less tiring on long drives (I drive from Dallas to Denver frequently in one day).

I spent some time on a track, in close proximity to a new EX (Rio's car).

Bottom line - It's a VERY capable performer in the twisties. In fact, if my G wasn't boosted, I think I might have had a REAL tough time keeping up with it.

Yep - The EX is THAT good.

i didn't want to say anything to rain on the parade of ex owners, but you're absolutely right. there is no comparison between the g and ex. simple physics will tell you that. but hey, that's just my opinion.

Loaners sometimes go through some tough love. Tire pressure and/or alignment can have a big impact on steering feel and tracking at speed. I vote for the G, in capable hands it will have a handling edge over the EX.

I drove the G37 Journey and EX35 back to back several times before deciding on the EX. In my view the G37 is the better handling vehicle, while the EX offers a great compromise between handling and ride comfort. The G is just nailed down to the road better based on suspension, tires and lower profile. That said, it would be difficult to find a vehicle in the EX's class that handles better.

Just my two cents worth.

now this i can agree with. it just doesn't make sense to me when ex owners think that they are out handling some sedans that simply don't have the "height weight". in it's class, there's no doubt that it handles like a champ.

I just had a G loaner for 2 days, while my EX was in for svc, and I agree with the comments about handling, and the G is quicker. That being said it seemed nervous and unrefined when compared the EX. I couldn't wait to get mine back - I missed all the goodies.

I have an EX and my Cousin has a G37 sedan, we went to Rincon area(30+ minutes in curvy roads) over the weekend and we decided to swap the cars on the way back.... I do not agree with anyone supporting our EX has better Handling.... I was feeling much more comfort in my cousin's G, while my cousin was haggling to keep up with me in my EX.

weight in heights always makes the car haggle in the corners, if you want to compare, we should compare it with other suvs.

in my opinion after driving many small suvs.

X3 > EX35 > RDX > CRV > Rav4

I guess Rio meant Diann X3 had more Unique look than EX... i guess our EX with the spoilers like Katsu's is more unique than any other suv out there.

Nice try, I have Quad-core with 24' LCD that supports 1600X1200 in monitor settings.

there are no such monitor that supports 2800X2000(in order to see your 2464X1632 photo in one screen, you need to have super monitor that supports double HD.)

I can see your BIG Love on your Gray EX.

Mmmm... I can see all of the Photo on my dinky 19" SAMSUNG LCD Monitor without using the Scroll-Bars.

Anyways... I got a "G" for a loaner while getting an Oil Change and what a POS compared to the EX-35

I guess if I had liked it, I would have bought it instead.

EX-35 Rocks !!!

If I use Firefox to view these forums, the picture is resized to a smaller size so it fits in the page. If I use Internet Explorer though, the pic isn't resized, so I have to use the scrollbars to see it all (if you click on the picture though, it goes to the photobucket site that has a smaller pic, and you can cut & paste the Direct Link to have it fill your browser window).
