Hey Everyone,
Use to visit NICO forums in regards to my other infiniti's (usually about my 94 Q45)
I'm in the market for a new/CPO infiniti. I looked at other things but Nothing seems to be what I love. this is really the first time ill be financing a new car so I want to have something to love years to come yet make the right choice as far as reliability.
so instead of reading all the marketing corporate propaganda i figured id ask people who really know.
I love the look and performance of infiniti's and ive always got a boner for the FX35 so that would be the one id buy (need SUV w/ AWD and cargo space).

However After my last experience Im very weary of buying another infiniti, I had a 93 J30 way back when and it was a pretty good car besides minor exhaust issues before I crashed it at 107K.
Then I got a 94 Q45 at about 100k which was a nightmare from the day I got it. FPCU, MAF, fuel and p/s pump, other major electrical issuses and non-existent cosmetic details... It became way too expensive to keep up with, even for a competent DIY'er like myself, and when you add up all the money and time you spend in the mechanic, stranded in a parking lot, and driving other people's cars, it is no longer a luxury vehicle.

I'm not gonna write off infiniti over it b/c I know alot of the guys in the q45 posts had Q's with over 200K miles and counting. Mine was poorly maintained or maybe just a lemon, and i failed to do the research about a serious defect in the manufacturing of the fuel injectors and electrical components that was relatively well known in the Q posts.
I dont really know much about infiniti's reliability besides the 2 I had.
The FX can have the worst bluetooth, NAV, and radio tuning knobs ever, those details don't concern me.I live in NY so I want a car that I can run up to 150K with no serious issues But if i buy this car, maintain it meticulously, and expire the warranties and the car starts having serious mechanical problems at 120K i may have a nervous breakdown.

So what do you think guys? How does this car hold up over the years, Is it really high maintenance, in and out of the shop, are there recurring well known defects/problems with any aspect of the mechanical design of this vehicle, or any reason you wouldn't recommend it?
Please let me know how your cars are lasting and how many miles you can put on this car before it starts breaking down. Share some stories and details like how many miles you have on yours, anything would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading Guys,
-Evan

Hey, read all the posts about oil consumption and intermittent electrical problems. Sorry to hear about your frustrating experience, Spike2000. Its things like accountability on the dealer's part that makes or breaks a car. If you buy a new car and are told by the dealership to 'live with' a defect in manufacturing because they can't 'recreate' it to me that is no longer a luxury car, just a bad nissan with some extra chrome trim and leather.. I'm not knocking Infiniti I think theyr'e great cars and look sweet (owned 2) but when there's documented problems with fuel injectors on the Q45 or oil consumption a 2004 FX yet no intention on eliminating the problem in their newer 2010 models they're no so sweet any more. Just poorly manufactured nissans
. So i think i'm gonna take a step back from infiniti. Dont think i can afford the extra time and money and patience with this car. Thanks for your posts on some of the problems with the FX, they helped me out alot

If you get an FX get an '08 with low miles if you can afford and find one. If you get an older model, get one with very low miles and get the Infiniti Extended Service Contract. It will more than likely pay for itself within the first 1-2 years of ownership. The FX is plagued with some issues that are expensive to fix---but is a nice looking and very fun to drive vehicle.

From my experiences here at the dealer working on them and dealing with the FX has been great. Especially the 06-08 and newer models. They are solid and have few issues.
