EX owner with G37 loaner

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

All I can say is....Whoa.
The G37 is fast. 3rd gear pulls like a racehorse, and you still have 3 more gears to go. Those 30 extra HP plus less weight really makes a difference. I thought the EX was fast. The G is muuuuuch quicker. Sometimes it feels like the EX is straining. G dnever feels like it. Must be the extra weight as well on the EX. Makes me hope for the EX37 eventually.

Other than the engine I take the EX in every other way. More luxury, way more comfortable, quieter, better seating position, cargo space and seats go down. Better cockpit feel, nicer cluster as well.

G may have slightly more legroom in back due to smaller front seat space. I also like 6 speed. More fun to drive overall definately.

I would not trade the EX for the G, even for the extra power. The G feels cheaper overall. Sorry guys. Hope they come out with EX37 when my lease is up in 2012. That would be best of both.

Whoops forgot it's a 7 speed. I actually like having the 2 extra gears to mess around with in manual mode. Not that anyone cares but I forgot to mention that the sound system in the G is a bit better with better low end bass I feel. The nav screen is a bit clearer as well in the 10 G although I like the way the software on the 08 EX version looks better. The colors of the cluster is nicer on the EX with the red needles. Although I would rather have the blue color of the center screen between the clusters instead of the red on the EX. Also the cluster moves with the steering wheel when you adjust it which is a nice touch.
Just got my EX back though and I was happy to switch back. So much more comfortable and silent. But the 3.7......wooooo

I know the feeling.

The first time i drove a G37 loaner, it was quick compare to the our EX35. You`ll like it at first, but the second time I got a loaner G37, it really changed my mind. The transmission is not smooth at all (7 speed using manual mode). I`ll save my money for the BMW 135i ....

I have a 2008 EX, and got a G37 loaner. I liked the acceleration of the G37, and I like the exterior look of it, and the handling around curves might've been better (due to lower height or different suspension?); but for everything else I like my EX better. I didn't like the 7-speed in the G37 (I was using automatic mode most of the time; it seemed to do a lot of unnecessary shifting which gave it a jerky feel). And the G37 is so low to the ground that every time I drove on my inclined driveway, the bottom would scrape.

I had an 04 G35 coupe. It was a blast to drive, but it had it's limitations. It depends what one wants more. If I had a 3 car garage....

G37 is fast. but I didn't like the ride inside. it didn't feel lexury. i mean a $30k+ car, i would expect more.
it felt like a Maxima.
how compare with how it feels in a Lexus IS350. you'll know what do I mean.
but I do have to admit, it is fast!

Agreed, the EX interior is slightly more upscale and the EX rides better, not as hard, also better ground clearance, only 1/2 an inch or 1 inch, I forget. By the same token, the G is faster and handles better. I thought the 5spd auto of the EX shifted better as well vs the 7 spd in the G. Remember, the EX is positioned 1 step above the G according to Infiniti.

I'm with you all...the seven speed transmission was more obnoxious with it constantly searching for a gear. Love the car when I hammered it in the corners (it was summer) but what a stiff uncomfortable ride.

I felt bad thinking that for an expensive car it didn't feel luxurious so I'm glad some of you said it first...I felt snooty...but really fast!

I've driven BMW and Benzes a LOT (tens of thousands of miles). I can say categorically that while the EX35 and G37 are nice, they are simply not in the same league. Both the G and the EX have noticeably more tire roar noise, and much more impact noise (when tires hit a pothole or dividing strip, more tire noise comes through but also sometimes the suspensions make ugly noises).

The engines are also cruder sounding at full throttle and not as smooth feeling.

My X5-driving neighbor stated that the EX is not as stable as an X5 and he is completely correct about that. Both are top-heavy, but the X5 has better dynamic response.

The Infinitis are quite nice, and quicker for the money, but they are less expensive and show it.

I also find the G is quite big compared to the interior room it has.

The EX? Well, one thing is there is just not another SUV that really looks cool and sporty like it does. :-)

yes, I am pretty sure the X5 is a better ride. but then again, you are comparing apple and oranges. they are not in the same catagory. there is a $20k Price gap. with $20k more, I sure hope that the X5 IS better than the EX.

yes, the G transmission...was just not fun at all. its not a smooth right at all. very slugish transmission. even when I had my 350Z, it wasn't as bad as the G. man...paying $30k for a lexury car..mm.....

A few things to note.. You would compare an X3, not an X5 to a EX35. The X5 would be compared to the FX. The previous X3 which ended in 2010, the interior was not as nice as the EX., not to mention it's stiffer ride and less power. For 2011 the new generation X3 finally gets 300hp as an option.

BMW/Mercedes nickle and dime you for everything. Leather is an $1450 option on an X3, where as it's std on the EX35!! Heated seats, backup camera, all extra cost on X3, std on EX. In order to get the backup cam, you have to buy the $2k+ navigation system, etc. No thanks, for me anyway.

X3 equipped the same as my Ex35 would have been $10k higher MSRP, LOL!

I agree, the Infinitis are nice for the $$.

The last time I seriously considered a BMW I couldn't get past the run-flat/crap tires and not providing a real limited slip differential option. Now the new X3 hits the market and the trend continues with run-flat/crap tires; conventional tires aren't available.

Besides the compromise in ride and handling, few people understand the limitations run craps have if/when you really need them. You can drive on a flat tire but there is a lot of fine print about when a tire should be replaced (after a flat), when/if it can be repaired, and how many times a tire can be repaired. Next up is finding a tire shop with the special patches and folks trained to properly repair run-crap tires; not something you are likely find in the more rural areas of the US.
