EX Mileage vs. Lexus

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hate to start another topic on this subject but I noticed a definite improvement in mileage in the last premium tankful after the first 500 miles. My 2008 is 2 weeks old with 650 miles. I am getting around 25mpg highway @ 70 mph vs. 27mpg in the Lexus. Pure city stop and go driving is about 18.5 mpg and suburban is around 21 mpg total (same as the Lexus). Hopefully the EX mpg may improve after 1500-2000 miles.

By the way the engine is quieter, road noise is about the same and ride quality about the same. The EX performance both in handling, braking and acceleration is much improved over the Lexus (3.5L with 272HP). Yellowbear

Why worry about 2 MPG, life is too short. I just hand them the plastic and say filler up with the most expensive gas you have. That usually gets a laugh out of the guy pumping gas (can't pump your own where I live).

You have almost 30 more HP and at the end of the day you are hauling a lot of weight.

I to would not loss much sleep over the milage compared to the less powered less. Your milage may increase after break in but honestly changing driving habits is the best way to gain MPG's.

how many miles was that for? according to your odo, and obviously depending on the difference of where you went, your samples probably aren't large enough because there's no way anyone is getting those kind of MPG on an ex for a significant distance.

The EX definitely runs better on premium. All Nissan vehicles get better the more you drive them. Its one thing I've noticed in my years here with infiniti. You take care of it at its ultimately bulletproof. The EX is a little different to compare with the Lexus. The lexus is just a camry inbred with a highlander. The EX is a sport based vehicle. Highway MPG will be better in the lexus because its geared to please old people. But I'm sure you've noticed that the EX is a pleasure to drive, and the driving excitement out of the lexus is like comparing the thrill of a roller coaster to the thrill of 18th century dentistry. Infiniti's tagline "Inspired Performance" is to let people know that every infiniti is built to be a Drivers car.
