EX makes the top 10 fastest SUVs list

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Sorry, the AWD EX didn't make the cut. Saw this link on Edmunds.

Compared to my old C6 the 2WD still feels slow but as the motor loosens up it is getting a little faster. There are very few times I have really felt the EX is too slow, some but few. There were many times I felt the C6 was too fast for off track driving.

Stupid question but just wondering what's a C6?

wow nice find. although i find it very difficult for it to lose .7 second from just 0-60 being an awd system vs a rwd system, but none the less that's what they found.

on another note, the ex is NOT considered an suv. if it were, the rear windows would be tinted from the factory. just an fyi.

that's what was my first thought as well, but who compares a c6 vette to a ex35?

The guy who traded a Vette in on a EX-35 2WD. My point is we all dream about having a really fast car but when you have one, you can seldom use all the power safely for more than a couple seconds.

Beside additional weight the AWD system has more reciprocating mass (rotating parts) and internal friction which impacts the acceleration.

Oh. So that is how you can tell an SUV from a sports sedan...

I consider tests like this to be interesting, even useful, but not absolute by any means. For comparison, here are two more evaluation points ...

The Apr 2008 issue of Car & Driver tested the EX35 AWD Journey (with all options included) at 6.2 sec to 60 mph, 1/4 mile in 14.6 sec @ 98 mph.

Road & Track's review on MSN tested (I presume the RWD version) at 6.1 sec to 60 mph, 1/4 mile in 14.5 sec @ 97.9 mph. They claim the RWD version is 165 lbs lighter than the AWD and tuned for quicker steering ratio & better throttle response. I expect this was an early review sometime in 2007 because they said "Prices haven't been announced yet ..."

Cheers,David

hate to be rude, but do your research. the ex is NOT an suv, at least in terms of what is listed as an suv by gov't standards. sure it's in the same market and i'm sure 99% of the public considers it one, but again, it's not one by gov't standards.

that had to have been a very difficult decision. as much as i don't like american vehicles, going from a vette to a ex would be difficult.

I just find your observation of vehicles with factory tinted windows and possible categorization as an SUV to be bizarre. I don't consider it an SUV either but cannot comprehend what window tinting has to do with anything.

as bizarre as it may be, perhaps you just didn't know this but suv's in america have their rear windows tinted because they can. look at every new suv out in the market right now, in fact, i'm willing to bet if you can find that link again and see the pictures of the other vehicles, they will all be tinted. again, i wasn't being rude, i'm just stating facts here.

btw, i discovered this because our fx's rear windows came in tinted while the ex didn't and was wondering why. only to discover it's not considered an suv by gov't standards, hence no rear window tint.

The day I picked mine up I found that it wasn't classed as an SUV. I asked why the windows weren't tinted, and where they recommended I got them done, and was told that the EX is classed by the govt as a station wagon, and as such doesn't have the windows tinted. SUV's all do. The advantage of it being classed as a station wagon is lower insurance premiums

Another advantage is the EX doesn't drive like an SUV.
