Okay, I'm a newbie... I just got a G37s (sedan) two days ago.

I'm coming out of a Volvo S60R for which I used Evolve performance parts (Chip/exhaust/suspension) ... prior to that I had an M3 which I went the Dinan route.

I've been looking and reading and I don't seem to find one definitive company which specializes in Infiniti the way Evolve does Volvo... that or my Google skills are lacking.

I'm hoping to do the basics to the car: Exhaust, Chip...

Can anyone help me find Infiniti's "Evlove"?

Really appreciate it...

Stillen is the biggest "tuner" of Nissan/Infiniti. There are several. Technosquare does ecm tuning, as does Cobb.

Check the sponsors. They will be a big help.

I know their are a few companies like vortech that do s/c FI for the z's and the G's.... No company that i know of tho...

Tuning companies are for German cars... Japan tends to make the best cars they can from the factory

you don't need software... You need new hardware

Get and intake, and a full exhaust! You will be really happy and at about 350hp at the crank.

Again, Thank you all for your input. this has been a morning of learning. "Tampa", you seem to have kinda hit in on the head when you said "tuning is for german cars"... at least in this case Sweed - the more I learn is that my G37s is pretty well tuned out of the box. I can do software and hardware but I will see little increase in HP... unlike my Volvo S60r which I was able to get up to nearly 400hp (392hp) with chip and minor exhaust/intake mods... Seems Turbos are going to leave more room for improvement.

I think I'll let it be stock for the time being... I may wait for Cobbs software but that will only yield 10 extra ponies... and hardware (without going crazy) will not see me to the 400hp realm... sooo...

Love the car though:-)

As an FYI, factory FI'd cars will respond to mods much better than any N/A car ever will. Only way you'll ever see 400hp out of your G realistically is to go the FI route. You could go all motor but it would end up costing more and be less reliable than an FI car.

Alright, alright, alright... I give. I just ordered Stillen intake, crank pulley and exhaust packages... the guy on the phone (Stillen) said I'd get an extra 35hp+ish out of it... seemed cheap for under $2k... I'll wait for Cobb to include software for these mods and try that then... regardless it will have a bit more "umph" and sound nice.

Tinted the windows, picked up an extra iPod for the arm rest and I'm done for now:-)

Thanks everyone for their help...

Welcome to NICO!

Let me know how the car is after the mods as I'm finally starting to look into upgrades for my '37.

you got it:-)

Exhaust came in today... intake will be 5 week... the Stillen bucks deal they have going right now ($25 credit for every $125 spent) ends this Sunday but you can't redeem until July 15th... so I'll order it then... Should have in by end of month.

Keeping everyone appraised of the process:

1. Today I had the light weight crank pulley installed. I was going to do it myself but I don't have a crank pulley puller so... for $90 I had my long time trusted mechanic do it... took him about an hour.

I will say it is SIGNIFICANTLY lighter... wow... I didn't realize the difference until I got to hold both side by side. Driving - no significant difference noticed but Stillen says its only going to yield a 10hp gain...thats small and I don't imagine noticeable.

2. Exhaust came in. The mufflers are chrome ... but I LIKE the way the stock mufflers are painted black so the7 blend into the undercarriage. So to maintain that look I'm having the new ones ceramic coated black... about $100 at a local place and I will have them back in 5 days... then I'll install. I'm looking forward to that one... Stillen estimates I'll get another 15hp plus the sound...that one I'll notice.

Just an update. I got the Stillen cat back exhaust back from having the mufflers ceramic coated black - a good choice as they look fantastic. The install was SUPER easy... took literally 35 min. Granted I do have a red neck best friend with a full hydraulic lift in his garage, plus air tools... but even without it it would totally be under an hour.

Stillen lightweight crank pulley is in and the intake is about to be ordered.

They look fantastic and sound wonderful... very happy.

Awesome. How do you like the sound of the exhaust so far? Is it a very noticeable difference in the cabin with the windows up? My G35X sedan is in at the shop at this moment getting the Gen 3 Stillen intake and grounding kit installed. I'm still debating on the Stillen exhaust - I like the way it sounds in videos but never heard it in real life.

Oh yeah, this thread is worthless without pictures

The sound is fantastic. You hear it... but its not obnoxious... not 'ricy'... actually reminds me of my Dad's Dinan'd M5 ... plus the pipes look beautiful (remember I had the actual mufflers ceramic coated black to match the stock mufflers)... so all you see is tip.

One of the aspects of the G37 that I did not like (mine is not manual) was that with the 7 speeds I felt like I was is a pseudo sensory depravation chamber. It was fast and very comfortable but I never felt like I could "feel" the car. Well... that is now solved... it's loud enough at high revs that I am getting that connection... much more fun to drive.

In the cabin you hear it on surface streets the most... freeway almost unnoticeable unless your rpm's are up.

Love it..

Thanks for taking the time to respond! That sounds like what I'm looking for... Time to break out the wallet again

Do you have your intake installed yet? Which Stillen intake did you get

I've haven't ordered the intake yet... the promo I took advantage of with Stillen makes me wait until the 15 of this month before I can buy something and get the kick-back I'm due... a Fathers day promo from last month... etc...

I was set on the Gen 3 "Ultra" long intake by Stillen... but I've been chewing on that choice a bit. The ultra long has two draw backs for me:

1. Its places the filters in an less than convenient place for maintenance etc... not a huge deal but something to think about.

2. Its not pure bolt on - it does require (so my research shows) that the holes in the front wall that the tubes pass through on either side of the radiator be enlarged slightly... I'm not a big fan of doing metal work... I'll admit I haven't taken the stock intake apart yet to see what I'd be up against... but... leaning towards a short tube intake.

The power gain from getting them out in front is not enough to make me want to cut up my front wall..

Been looking at these 2:

A. Stillen Gen 2 long tube dual intakehttp://www.stillen.com/product...m=all

B. JWT 2007+ G35(HR)/G37 DUAL POP-CHARGER INTAKE SYSTEMhttp://www.jimwolftechnology.c...D=477

I'm debating... 6, 1/2 doz one or the other... both are similar... the Stillen's black plastic covers are nice at sealing but then I like the extra "air" space around the JWT's set up... plus prefer the Venturis over Stillen's

LOL... and JWT are blue... and I like blue... LOL

JWT is local here in San Diego so I'm going to go check them out next week... curious how well it seals (from hot air) with the hood...

This is a learning process for me and the longer I drag it out the more fun I have.... Sway bars are next!

Here is a video that shows the install of the Gen 3:

The cutting of the core supports is the main reason that it is in the shop getting the work done. I'll post some pics when I get it back Monday. Actually it will probably be Tuesday before the pics get up, I tend to procrastinate a bit...

Re: the youtube video of the install...

LOL - you really have to love the age we live in... I can;t believe some one made a video of the install... LOL... fantastic. -thank you!

Well, at least I know its not metal work... just some plastic that needs to be cut - I gotta get one of those little oscillating cutting thingys... wanted one for a while... now I have the excuse.

There is a reason why STILLEN went and put that filter in front of the radiator support. You will most likely not much at all from a short ram intake. The reason is that G35s/G37s are very sensitive to temperatures. You will have heat soak.

If it were me, I'd go straight for the Stillen Gen3 intake. Unless, of course, you are gonna go FI in the future. Then you wouldn't want to have holes in the radiator support.

FI = Forced Induction = Supercharger, Turbo, or NOS
