I live near there. They think it is a cross between a coyote and a hyiena. (I cannot spell).

They have it on video but have not bothered to tranq it to check it out. Even if it was a home video, they could still sit and wait for it, just out of curiousity...

While I don't profess to be the foremost authority on Canines or Hyenas, I highly doubt this animal is a cross between the two. Hyenas' closest relatives are Mongooses and Meerkats and despite their appearances aren't even remotely related to Canines.

Though Brown Hyenas have been domesticated in certain parts of Asia and smugglers have sneaked them out of Asia/Africa, that "creature" in the video most likely isn't a Hyena.

Brown Hyenas have very long coats and the Spotted Hyena is much bigger than that. I saw one at the San Diego Zoo a few years back and remember one being about 3.4 ft. high at the shoulders and looking like it weighed around 180 lbs. with a steeply sloped back, very elongated neck and round ears. That animal in the video is much too small. Looks like some sort of Shepard/Labrador mix with some sort of illness.

A little zoology lesson for all of us!

That was just what one of the local stations said about the animal. Plus, it looks like the hyena from the Lion King :D

Anyway, they still do not know what it is.

I saw that on that website about deformed animals. Wasn't it a shampoo or something that just turned in purple for a few days?

damn, you beat me by a county or so...I live in Montgomery County.

Hey i got an idea, lets go to the area and try to capture the Hyote and use it as a mascot. We can get a NICO hat and he'll ride in the passenger seat during an event or 2. "Drift Hyote".
