I'm really anxious for the racing season to start, so to get myself and maybe a few of you in the mood, I figured I'd post pics of my Evo in a few events last year. She ran SCCA Street Mod class, regular contender for FTD. Last years resume13 auto-x's, missed 4 due to being broken3 FTD's, 9 class wins, 6 2nd place overallAlso drove an A stock S2000 that I borrowed from a friend to a 1.5sec FTD, a Street Mod Mini to FTD and a 350z SM2 class to second overall by .001secondsPics of the Evo

Nice. I'd love to get out there and track. It looks like so much fun.

I still need to customize my stereo a little more before I could do that though. My speaker box moves if i turn that hard at fast speeds.

ummmm just a bit. fortunately I saved some money on the last and 2nd. the 2nd a friend did.....lasted a while until the turbo let go and dry sumped the motor of oil. The 5th I was sponsored at that point, so I got an entire motor and seals for wholesale cost and no labor. But 1, 3, 4..... there's a reason I still rent and don't pay a mortgage.

Now by fifth motor you mean rebuild or entire motor? as in buy the block and build it to match that.

Since this is on the subject of your evo, i'm going to keep talking about it....As far as the motor, is it the same as the 4g63 that is in, say, a 96' GSX? I mean i know they are both called the 4g63 but is it the same block and pretty much you could use one of those in replacement.... or use the block.

Its actually been so long I forgot what was done on each build. I know the first one was everything.... rods, pistons, built head (valvetrain included) HG, new headstuds, transmission rebuilt, new clutch. 2nd (timing jumped on first turn over of new motor and sent the valves into the pistons)....new pistons/ valvetrain. then the turbo went and dry sumped. So that was a whole new bottom end and I did the valvetrain again. Had the motor rebuilt when I was in Iraq. Got home, first night on the dyno (395whp stock turbo, first pull of 110octane), the timing belt tensioner came loose and again sent the valves into the pistons. My sponsor rebuilt that motor, that last 7mos when at an auto-x I threw a rod bearing because the g's I was pulling caused the oil to flood over and the pick up went dry and destroyed the bearings. So ya 5 brand new bottom ends. I BUILT the motor once and kept rebuilding it everytime it broke. After the 4th motor is when the front wheel bearings and transfer case went.

The 92-99 DSM (eclipse, talon, laser) came with teh 4g63 in the turbo option, the non turbo's were 420a and 4g64 (non turbo's in the convertibles). In 97 I believe the motor went from a 6bolt flywheel to 7bolt. 7bolts are the ones that crankwalk. That problem was resolved in 98. Evo's I BELIEVE are a 7bolt, they are the same motor except the Evo is mounted the opposite direction of the DSM's and the Evo came with a forged bottom end, larger turbo and better valvetrain. Because the Evo motor is mounted the opposite way, nothing works.....not cams, not turbo setups, intakes, not anything!

Oh and its Buschur http://buschurracing.com/

Ryan I've seen that evo on there, I like that alot. Fun in the snow

No, I sold it to buy the Nismo..... that was in one of my first posts here

The first time mine popped was my fault....actually all of them were my faultfirst time, I had replaced the HG and put in ARP headstuds. I never retorqued them after install so the head lifted. The 2nd time was the shops fault, they didn't tighten the tensioner pulley correctly and it popped sending my valves into the pistons3rd time, turbo let go from running too much boost and burned up the oil4th time, shops fault not tightening the tensioner properly and again sent the pistons into the valves5th time, oil starvation from too many g's. Solved that with the tomei oil baffle

Bottom line, if I retorqued my headstuds like I was supposed to, the first two builds could have been avoided. The 5th, I should have been more diligent in checking my oil
